I need some advice on how to get more power out of my 1999 Eclipse GS. It has a 2.0L DOHC 4 Cylinder Engine (420a) and I haven't had any modifications done to it yet. I would like to have a turbocharged engine but am not sure if its cheaper to buy a turbo kit or swap the engine for a turbocharged one? Or would it be cheaper to just sell the car and buy an eclipse with turbo? Any advice on what kind of upgrades I would need if I were to put a turbocharger in and how much it would cost would be appreciated.

yeah, i was gonna make a custom turbo setup w/ the T25, but crankwalk prevented me from actually doing it :+ :order

thats true, crankwalk doesnt effect every single 2g turbo but you never kno if the car you buy has it or not unless you test drive it hard. So be careful if you buy the turbo.

to find crankwalk: look for RPM change when clutch pedal is pushed in @ idle....

am i not correct???

I'm with Joel on this one. Actually, I'm running a Zex 75shot. It gives me the little thrills I need for now.

crankwalk is just a good reason to swap in a 6 bolt.

Get the GST it is the smartest thing to do.

sell it and buy a turbo.

if you can afford it then by all means sell it for a gsx. Just remember reliability, cost of insurance, and less mpg come into play.

Crankwalk is rare and when it does show up, it's usualy with the 96-97 model. It happens around 300hp. It's rare. Turbo or nitrous is the only way to make good hp. Allmotor high hp is pretty much a no no for our engines. If you want all motor, CAI, afx underdrive pulley, ECU relflash from howell (97 models only), maybe headers and exhaust. That's about it to get you in the 170hp range.

i have a 98 Gs. Mods include: CAI, custom 2.5" cat back exhaust with magnaflow muffler, 4-2-1 header, ARD 55mm throttle body, ported/polished intake manifold, short shifter, ground wire kit, and hopefully an AFX UDP on the way.... and my car is still pretty slow.

Go turbo IMO before you waist time and money.

yeah its fun... until something else breaks. Ive repaired my car more times than ive modified it and i just hit 80,000 miles. My car hates me a swear to god!
