Please Type Out Details on "Other Ring Set"!
THanks all!

I am thinking on getting the Howell Long Rod Rebuilt Kit, comes with: Clevite 77 Rod & main Bearing Set, Total Seal Piston Rings, Felpro Oil Pan Gasket Set (includes rear main seal), Melling Oil Pump, Eagle Specialty Forged Long Rods, JE Pistons

Poll question: So which type of Piston Ring Set you think is BEST?

Poll result (16 votes)
Total Seal Ring Set? (5 votes)Vote
JE Ring Set? (4 votes)Vote
Hastings Ring Set? (0 votes)Vote
Other Ring Set? (7 votes)Vote

didnt you just ask this? but not in poll form?

Well, because some people ask me to do it in Poll Form, and I think it's the best way to do it.

Also I just found out how to do it in POLL FORM, so I do it again!
Thanks man.

LOL... I currently don't have much mood..but I wo'nt tell you to SEARCH.

Piston ring is the rings around the PISTON.

You can't make the entire piston PERFECT tight to the cylinder wall, otherwise it won't move. so the piston and the wall has a THIN gap and the gap is using the rings to make it sealed.
So the pressure wo'nt lose to the lower bottom of the engine block (to the oil) and the oil won't go up to the cumbustion area.

Now do more search and read more details... I am not that good in teaching when typing!

LOL.... we were all nooob once.... I remember 3 years ago, I was so AFRAID, I don't know if I want the Hahn kit, star kit or do it all myself.

I end up rebuilding my g/f's engine, custom turbo kit, and now rebulid my own engine.

So people learn and grow!

Oh snap.

I put ROSS pistons/rings in my engine. I have seen local drag racers beat the crap out of em in Nitrous gulping big blocks and they hold up pretty well.

JE rings to go with my JE pistons...makes sense to use the same companies parts. If I'd have my way, I would give CP a try. Possibly Wiseco and Ross.

I can't say which is "best", but I am perfectly happy with my Hastings rings.

The Total Seal hands down are better that is why most racers use it or something similar. Childs and Albert make a "Z" ring which is the other gapless ring on the market it is just a defferent style.

The second ring is probably the most misunderstood ring application of all the rings used on a piston. With a conventional piston ring the ring design is similar to the top ring. It also has a ring gap which allows hot gases to further penetrate down the cylinder wall into the crankcase oil. This is known as blow-by and has deleterious effects on the engine. Blow-by getting into the oil contaminates the oil with carbon particles from the combustion process, raises the acid level, heats up the oil and speeds up the oxidation process. This effectively begins the process of slowly diminishing the lubrication ability of the oil and allows the carbon particles to wear out all the parts which it is expected to lubricate. The second ring also serves as an oil scraper ring to help minimize the oil above the second ring and as such compliments both the compression ring and the oil ring.

The only time we have ever had a problem with a Total Seal or the Childs and Albert is when people didn't read the instructions. When using Total Seal Rings be sure to disable the PVC system. The Total Seal Rings reduce blow so much, that the PVC system can begin to scavenge oil from the crankcase and cause oil consumption. Disable your PVC system

rail rings with total seals suck.

piston rings were not made to hold pressure aka compression. they were made to no let oil get in the combustion chamber

LOL, that is funny. But keep in mind there are a lot BANME!s read the board and may think you are being serious and not making a joke, but funny none the less.

Rail supports are common and are only on the oil rings, not the compression rings. Total Seals or any of the compression rings have nothing to do wiht the rail supports, they are all the same no matter what ring set you are using. Did you try to install them in the wrong place?
