IS total seal rings good?
Or the standard Hasting Ring Set Better (sold in Howell)?

My opinion, Total Seal bad, very bad. I had a set, didnt deat right or something and blew smoke everwhere. Went to conventional, same breakin process, no probs. But thats my opinion.

If you go with the TS rings, you will need to disable the PCV by capping the port on the intake manifold that it goes to, and running a line to a catch can from the valve cover. The TS rings do just that, they seal.

I've been pondering this set choice for so long now, I think it's best just to go with the standard style rings. Have a good machine shop gap and install them for you. I'm looking at about $500 for a bore, hone, balance and assembly job which includes stepping up to +1 sized rod and main bearings. Not too expensive for my piece of mind knowing the bottom end was built right this time. :thumbsup

currently (before I blew my engine) I already took out the PCV valve, and I ran both hose (out of the valve cover) to a catch can already.

Well, the reason I ask if Total Seal Ring is good or not is because it comes with the LONG ROD KIT sold in HOWELL.

If it is good, then I don't have to waste money to rebuy other parts.

Can someone tell me WHAT PART IS NOT GOOD in the REBUILT KIT from HOWELL?

im running the long rod kit with the TS and have no issues that im aware of. i am told they can take a while to fully seat correctly, if thats the case, im still wiating cause i seem to loose about a quart every month or two, with no signs of leaking or catch can accumulation.... i dunno where it goes.

If brand new rebuilt.... it shouldn't lose any oil like that.. right?

no no, dont get me wrong... everything is a-ok. no smoke, no blow by nothing! everything works great! if anything, they haven't quite seated completely yet and just enough oil gets by to be burnt off, but not enough to cause smoke if thats possible.

i think the TS are just fine... i've een running 10 low/16 hi psi for about 4k now. the oil is a mystery, but the car and rings are great.

Nothing wrong with Hastings.

A new engine will be more likely to blowby than a broken in engine (meaning that broken-in means that the rings are seated, and not letting oil or air past!).

Why did you run the PCV and the breather into a catch can? Are you giving it any kind of crankcase vacuum? hmmm?

Yeah, use the search. Check Google. There are plenty of reasons to not do that with your PCV system. Check Google for EVERY reason and then some.

I thought the PCV and the breather is not needed after having TURBO.
I talked to someone on here that did that as well.... and I confirmed that doing so is the best for the engine about 1 year ago!
