On a hill, let your car coast down without touching your clutch or gas, with engine running of course, see if your idle goes up and post back... mine gradualy went up as speed increased, let me know... thanks

I tested my car today about this, and i only have a CAI. When coming to a stop, pushing in the clutch, the rpms are at about 1200. when i get stopped, they drop to 900 and stay there. It doesnt go up and down, just even like i said. I think this is normal for the car because the ecu is still getting a reading from the vehicle speed sensor. I think someone else had mentioned this on a post, but maybe it does this to compenstate if you need to put back in gear real quick to make a smooth trans shift. just my thoughts...

My car used to do that all the time. It would rev up in neutral rolling down a hill (with the clutch out) and very slowly go back down. Also, as soon as I pushed the clutch in (at the stop sign on the bottom of the hill) it would go up again to like 3k rpms and it would take forever to go back to normal. It also did other strange things like revving up by itself just sitting at idle. I never did anything to really fix it. The only thing I did was changing the head gasket around the time it quit doing it... Not much help... sorry...

This has to do with the brake booster. When you have the clutch in or are coasting, the vacuum to the brakes disappears. The only way to compensate for this is a higher idle to have some power for the brakes to use.
Granted, 3k RPMs is overkill, and there is something else going on, but it's completely normal for the "idle" to go that high while coasting.
I don't really think I explained that all too well, but hopefully you understand the thought behind it.

Hmmm.. that doesn't make sense to me because if that were the case, then there wouldn't be any brake boost at idle when stopped. I believe(correct me if i'm wrong)that the vac hose to the booster is after the throttle plate, so it doesn't matter if you are at no throttle or part throttle...yes????? anyone???
