83447, CALLING A WISEMAN!!!

My RS started to leak oil a couple of months ago, it was not HG because there is no coolant in my oil. I check the valve cover for leaks it wasn't there, I checked the spark plugs to see if I had oil on them. It wasn't leaking on the ground either. But the car was smoking blue smoke alot especially when the car is warmed up and not moving. So the last guess is the valve stem seals allowing blow by. So the other day after street racing, I notice the car was wasn't smoking. This was odd to me so I checked the oil level. It needed some oil so I feed her with 10-40 Maxlife. Then after a couple of days of driving her I do not see the smoke. I'm really short on money because of college but have about $400 to solve this. WHERE IS THE OIL NOW GOING.

Should I feed her with the thick suuuuurp 20-50 until I have enough to fix this problem?
And if it is the seals, about how much will a local garage would charge to fix it with $85 per hour. I can get it fixed for $400 by good friend back in South Florida but that requires me to drive 3hrs to get there since I move this mother f***ing city called KISSIMMEE. I don't have the time to drive down their. If shops are charging too much my father has work on plenty cars in his life time. I was wondering can I do this with my father or let a shop do it? What tools are need to complete this job. Also this would be the first time working on an Eclipse by my dad.

I NEED YOU WISDOM ABOUT THIS SITUATION

I'm leaning towards the rear main seal, don't ask why. I just have a 6th sense for this type of thing. If you're knowledgeable, it should take about 2 hrs to take off tranny. Swap a new rear main seal in and rebolt tranny. I did it when I put my new clutch in.

V, the rear main won't make it smoke, you dolt.

Do a compression test first of all. This will help you and us determine the condition of the ring seal. if those numbers come back fine, then i'd say its most likely valve stem seals, with a small chance it is the headgasket. Just because you are not mixing fluids does not mean you don't have a headgasket problem.

Dark One can you post without the satanic symbol please, you are scaring the crap out of me with that picture. Back to the topic, When I bought the car the guy told me he just change the HG and VG. Those two could not have gone out that quickly. Can I just take it to Mitsui and let them look at it instead of going to a garge and tell me a million different things about the car? But the funny thing about this is the car stop smoking. It always smoked after the engine was warmed. How much should a garage or Mitsui charge me for a valve job?

Probably too much, especially considering that you aren't sure if that's the problem, or if there even IS a problem. When my car was mostly stock, I had oil burn issues at high cornering speeds, because the PCV system would suck oil up out of the valvecover. It'd smoke on and off for a day or two, then stop once it burned all the oil off.

Do a compression test. If the numbers are fine and its not smoking, i wouldn't worry about it for now.

UGH..... well lets start at the top, you said it was smoking...where? Engine bay or tailpipe. you say it cant be the HG becasue it was just done...wrong, just done doesnt mean it was done right. You think valve seals causing blow by....wrong valve seals do not cause blowby.

As Dino stated do a compression and leak down test with engine cold. If compression numbers are good then warm the engine up and do them again with it warm. if still good them HG is prolly fine and rings are prolly fine. If the valve seals were bad you should get a good puff of smoke at startup, since your not then they are prolly ok. The next thign to worry are the valve guides, they will allow oil to pass the warmer the engine is. If you want to do some of your own legwork, remove the exhaust manifold and look for the back side of the exhaust valves....if they have oil deposits and you can see fresh oil on the stem (more than normal), that is prolly your problem. Thicker oil will hide the problem.

A valve job at a machine shop can run you as high as 600.00 and that is you pullng the head. Take it to the dealer and they will tell you the motor is bad.

If its not smoking now just drive it. If its smoking from the engien bay you have a totally different issue.

It is smoking out of the tail pipe. So I guess it is not the seals if you are telling me it will smoke at startup. Valve guides, never thought about those, I will scap up some money to get it look at. I guess I will be driving to South Florida within a couple of weeks then. Thanks your help.
