83368, ECU/Turbo combo Question Posted by Aggression, Dec-10-04 01:43 PM
Is anyone here running the 97 AFX ECU with their turbo setup. The only thing I have hear is that its not recommended due to the fact that the 97 AFX ECU increases timing like a mofo!
Anyone running it with a turbo setup and not having any issues?

you can use it as long as you have some sort of timing retard control like the msd or similar...

so would it be worth it our just more of a pain in the ass and headache in the long run to get that ecu and the turbo to play nice!
Since I plan on going turbo really soon I was debating getting this!
Everyones input is appreciated!

I think that PCM is a waste of engine management and dollars.. If you are going to get a fuel controller, go standalone or piggyback your stock PCM
Options: 1:MS 2:ACCEL DEFI 3:AEM EMS (long install and costly) 4:SAFC2 with your FMU/SFMU 5:EMANAGE 6:F.A.S.T
I'm sure there is a lot more options, but it all depends on how much $$ and time you want to invest in it...

It occured to me the other day that, if the AFX/R makes all its power by adjusting timing and changing fuel trims, then when I install my MegaSquirt with Spark control, I'll be effectively circumventing those features. This leads me to think I might want to go back to the stock ECU, but I still have some research to do regarding rev limiters. As it stands right now, I'll be running a fat turbo on 10.5:1 CR with the AFX ECU. You just have to be more vigilant in your tuning.
