What kind of engine could you put in a 95 eclipse to make it rear wheel drive? I have seen it done before, so i know its possible.

anything that will fit in the engine bay, Ive seen a v8 in an avenger with RWD.

you can also swap in the gsx all wheel drive. I know I know but its been done.

Every 6-months someone posts this (I did it my first time here too) You can put any engine you want into any car you want with a sledge hammer and a cutting torch, so have at it boss.

Well a strong motor is a 406 small block :dark

or you could do it completely custom with YOUR engine and just turn it sideways. They do that alot with full drag 1st gens and that is how the conquest sits also. Alot of fabrication and alot of money.

ha.. now i just got to find an engine that would fit.. and that is fast as well.. i really dont want to turn engine side ways.. if i did that.. might as well buy a newer eclipse then do it. it would be one bad car if i put the s2000 motor in it.. same size engine and all >=D

No it wouldn't. A Honda is a Honda is a Honda, and it still doesn't make enough torque to tighten my axle nuts.

Where do people get the idea that just because something is another 2L, it'll work?

There is so much more involved in doing something like this, situating the motor should be the very least of your worries.

um, your forgetting that the eclipse is setup for FWD. which means....where are you gonna fit the RWD trans? your gonna have to locate the shifter somewhere...may not be where the stock location is. as a fwd, the rear has no setup for an axle. that will require new springs, of course an axle, and all the junk that goes along with RWD. youll have to do something about the gas tank. gsx's require a diff gas tank. im sure youll have to mofidy your spare tire well to accomidate an axle. youll have to have a custom made driveshaft. do you see where im going here? the engine is one in a long line of things that will need to be modified.

I think what everyone is getting at, is you can do anything you want if you have enough money. For the huge amount of money it is going to take to do this, you could have bought a Supra and decked it to the nuts. Waste of time/money IMO.

An s2000 has 240 hp from 2L. It also has a power-weight I only wish my car had.

you should read some more

you know a jeep liberty has a 2.4L in some trims. 2.4L=same tranny bolt pattern as 2.0. just a heads up, this would be fun

I'm planning on putting an LS1 on my 3rd gen RX-7. Everything can be done if you have time and money. Patience helps too.

Sure. You also have to have a clue what you're doing. Anyone that comes here, to this site, and asks if they can do a RWD swap obviously has no idea what they're doing. Those who can do it don't have to ask. Those that ask are probably idiots.

just cut a hole in the rear of your car and stick the engine back there. rwd/rear engine car. see boys. i made it simple. now go do it.

ive seen an Audi 1.8 TT with Twin engines (front and rear) the car was rated well over 400hp....

Car and Driver or Motortrend TV covered it....

anything is possible....

you are only limited you the credit line on your AMEX and your mechanical skills and imagination

thanks for reading all this
have a beer on the HOUSE! :beer

<cough> Uh, 400 HP? Why did they bother with a second engine? ONE 1.8T can make that kind of power...

And go ask Vineet about how easy it is to put in a second motor...

yes, and it helps that the rx-7 is already a rwd vehicle, so all you need is the engine, computer, fab some mounts, possibly a custom driveshaft and a couple other things. it has room for a trans, already has a rear end setup with suspension and axles, etc etc. putting a rwd engine in a rwd vehicle isnt a problem. putting and converting a fwd vehicle to a rwd engine and set up is quite a big deal. its so much more than just engines and mounts

If you could find a rwd tranny to fit an engine that can be mounted for RWD applications you could attach it to a GSX rear diff and run the axel down the channel already under our cars.

You're a fuckin moron if you even start looking for such parts.

I would say....THERE IS NO LOGICAL REASON TO DO THIS...you know why???

Look at your engine bay.....if you were to place a RWD trans WITHOUT BUTCHERING the hell out of the fire wall it would stick out WAY in front of where the front axle was....now anyone who knows about handling will tell you the optimal position for a RWD/Front engine vehicle is Behind the front tires (look at the viper...notice how long its hood is...thats to acomodate the v10 behind the front wheels.....we have what is called cab forward design...which cuts the lenght of the engine bay...since its suposed to be FWD)...only engines short enough to accomplish this would be either a 4 cyl boxer(scooby or VW...i would say the scooby is the only choice due to the lack of a trans for VW bolt pattern that would run N/s with a driveshaft sticking out of it) or a 2 rotor rotary ...you would have to transplant an RX7 trans also....now if you got the trans to intrude into the cabin you also could go that route

NOW if you were to Create a custom made $$$$$$$$ TUBE FRAME CAR...and just slip on the skin of the eclipse that would be the way to go...just that now you have to deal with a unibody on a tube frame and how to reinforce it....

YOu know just fuck it...go out buy a GSX....weld the center differential...get rid of the front driveshafts, buy/make/steal a way stronger differential, driveshaft combo...enjoy

(BTW if you have seen RWD eclipses and beleive you also can do one...remember that those cars have VERY little in comon with a street car....and way more money invested in 1 racing season than what you will see in 5 years)

Much cheaper......BUY RWD CAR...enjoy a car that was created to be RWD and has probably better handling than anny half assed creation one could make in a shop

For those who want RWD just go out and buy a 240sx and go wild

I agree with this.

Why buy a front wheel drive car if you wanted rwd?

Get your ass a gsx and beef up the drivetrain. No point at all in doing all that bullshit to a 2gnt. Then again, people tell me there's no point in slapping a turbo on my car and building it to handle enough power and torque to run into the 13's..... That's realistic though and it doesn't take 10 grand to do it.

Laters.

where the hell is that lazarus quote when you need it, glad someone's reading through old stuff and learning but we don't need 2+ year old posts being dragged back from the dead. FWIW, want to know how to make a RWD 2G? Go ask Buschur

yeah the NVT1500, but you would need a tube frame setup to fit it, i guess if somebody who hated the 4g63 hardcore won the powerball or something...... it could happen
