the stock bolt is not long enough to use for pulling the pulley back on. you dont leave the long bolt in, its just to help pull it back on.

because you can only screw in the stock bolt a couple of threads and when you apply all the force your ass could handle you'll chew up the threads in the crank shaft. I know this because I've done it once. Get a longer bolt, screw it in enough threads so it'd hold the amount of force it needs to reinstall crank pulley.

this is complete news to me. i have an unorthodox pulley, moved it and reinstalled several times.

I can't count how many 2gnt'ers have stripped out their crank trying to use the stock bolt.

hrm... i just use a hammer and hammer it on a few. then thread the bolt in a good ways, and have at it with the impact.

I wouldn't recommend hammering on it. When you hammer on the pulley you are also hammering your thrust bearing. Which could change the crankshaft end play.

and how do you think we install the crank sprocket?

The way I put mine on is by heating up the sprocket and it well go on with out much persuasuion. I also suport the rear of the crank with a block of wood wedged in between the crank and the engine stand. But of course this is with the engine out.

I guess I could be anal about stuff like this, but that is the way I do things (overkill). I just worry about damaging the bearing because it is made out of soft metals.

hmm weird, i used the orig. bolt to reinstall my pulley after the timing belt was replaced, just put the pully on lightly taped it with a hammer so it wouldnt fall off by itself and then cominced tighing the fuger withthe impact gun

I just thought of a way that might be better to install the crank sprocket.I will have to try this next time. It is basically the same way I put on the crank pulley. I use a piece of 12mm all thread with a couple of washers and nuts to press the pulley on to the crank.

I thought of using a piece of pipe that would just fit over the crank and that is cut to the right length, maybe some were around 5 or 6 inches long. Using the all thread, pipe and some large washer you could press on the crank sprocket.

i used my passenger motor mount bolt. its longer.

ive reinstalled mine like 4 times now with various motors....so um, yea...the stock bolt works. you dont use the bolt to pull on the pulley! :dark...lol

heat up the steel insert on the ground with a propane torch or someting and it slides on very very easily with a rubber mallet

bashing it on could potentially cause crankshaft endplay problems, but i honestly doubt it unless you really smack the living shit out of it

Heh, I used two three-pound drilling hammers. I put the pulley on the end of the crank, kept one hammer on the pulley and hit it with the other hammer.
