82967, Oil pressure guage is reading whack numbers ?

I have an autometer ultra light elec. oil pressure guage. At cold idle im reading 25 and at 5k about 30 psi. At warm I get 5 at idle and barely 20 at 5k. I have almost the right range but it seems to be off my 25 pounds. The guage was fine until it flickered then it started happening. I have more then enough oil and I ran 2 diff power sources to the guage. I read that it could be the sending unit but when it broke for everyone else, it just went completely out. Mine works but not correctly. The motor runs fine with no noise. What could it be ? Sending unit ? Motor problems ?

mine did that when i started loosing oil pressure last year, lol. i replaced the sending unit hoping that was it, but it wasnt, same readings. HOPEFULLY this isnt your problem! make sure your power source is to a 12v and your grounded good. try getting a new sending unit. also, where is your sending unit placed at? are you using a sandwhich adapter with the pressure sender in the adapter?

Its T'd on the block. I really hope its something stupid. Im going to try and swap it with a switch to see if it throws me a light. Could it be the I dont have my stock switch hooked up ? Im not getting an oil light with just the harness hanging. I ran 2 Tees for a temp pressure and switch but I pulled the T out and ran only the sensor and temp yesterday. I was so happy that I was getting good reading especially with my temp. The sending unit might of been getting too much pressure which blew it. At least im hoping.

Seriously, there is no way your motor is producing so much pressure that it broke the Autometer sending unit (unless it was defective). Having it T'ed with the stock pressure switch or not will not cause the sending unit to fail prematurely.

Ive had it hit very close to 100 PSI once I took a T off.

if it was 100psi, i think it might blow the oil filter off!
i could be wrong, but thats a very false reading with 100psi!

it wouldnt matter if you had the stock harness disconnected or not because your still getting the oil pressure from the gauge. i guess your first step is to get a new pressure sender and then try that. also, i would recommend getting a sandwhich adapter that goes inbetween the block and the oil filter. this way, if your oil pressure truly is fucked up, you will get your oil light flashing on. if it is, and yuors is disconnected, your not going to know, alot of electric gauges come off with false readings alot, thats why i like mechanical ones. but for the future, i personally would invest in the sandwhich adapter. i bought from the company AC AUTOTECHNIC, and it holds up to 4 senders, i use oil temp and oil press on the adapter then blocked the other two off with the hardware it came with. just my 2 cents for that though.

Well autometer is sending me a new sender unit for free. They are great about covering there products. I inquired about the nexus guages and its going to be the 1st of the year. Also if you have a 1 - 100 PSI fuel pressure sender with 2 terminals, it was recalled for fuel leaks.
