I am doing a timing belt change on my 95 eclipse that i bought and needed a t-belt, well the bolt thats in the center of the crank shaft pulley wasnt even there so we got a pulley extractor and got the pulley off finally after giving it hell with an impack, but when i look into the hole and see the crank i dont see the threads where that bolt is supose to thread up to, so what the hell do i do, i dont think i am thread the block and puta bolt in there b/c it needs to spin along with that pulley, any suggestions, please help

i doubt you can even see the threads in the crank. the bolt is like 3.5-4" long i think. the entire bolt isnt threaded, thats why you cant see the threads. go to satan and get the bolt you need and then see if it threads into the crank which it should.

btw, wtf hapened to your exisiting crank bolt!?

i bought the car and it needed a timing belt and i guess the guy took the bolt out and didnt give me it, i used an 1/4 extention to put in agaist the crank and used a pulley extractor and got the pulley off, well when i look throug the hold where the bolt goes i dont see any threads, and what is Satan ???

The dealer

Go to the dealer and buy the bolt. The threads are not visibale in the hole, but they are there.

if they arnt visible when you look in the hole, then something broke off in there b/c i can def see like the end of something and i was thinking it was the crank but i guess not

i have looked at alot of threads about this same problem and some people say to try and drill out and re tap or use helicoil, i am sure if any one on here has done a timing belt change and had to take that pulley off they know that bitch is on there GOOD, i also hear to put it on good with out beating it on, just put it in the oven at like 450 deg for about 45 mins then it'll slide on like butter

was it a stock pulley you were putting on or an aftermarket one ??

You can buy those bolts from a decent hardware store, but you'd need a pic of what your looking for, the length, thread, and pitch

trust us, go buy the bolt from satan (aka dealer) and put the pulley back on. they are hard to get off and on so that they dont come off!! just go get the bolt and your worries and fears will be over. i dont see how it could of broke unless he for some reason was fucking with it (the previous owner) trying to get it off and it snapped which i think is very doubtful. just get the bolt, put the pulley back on, pur your belts on and tighten it down to factory specs. yuo be all good~

i dont think you get it, when i look in the hole where the bolt goes and i use a flashlight, i can see the end and something looks like there is a chunk missing or something, i buying the bolt wont work just yet b/c i need to figure out what the hell that is and weither i need to drill it out and re-tap or what

i wouldnt drill into my crankshaft period end of story on that subject. im going to parents house in like 3 hours to work on my motor, i will look into my shaft to see what yuo are seeing.
yuo are 'probably' seeing the end of the shaft where the bolt bottoms out. i dont think it hollow all the way through because then oil would get in it and possibly loosen up the bolt. why not buy the bolt, you going to need one anyway RIIIIIIGHT!?!? just get the bolt and bolt the damn pulley on. i super highly doubt the old one broke in there!

i have a bolt that i think is the one for it that was taken off another 420a engine that i blew up but when i put it in there it doesnt even start to thread so something is in there blocking it, if i could get a pic of it i would but it probally wouldnt come out clean enough to tell what it is

Alright bro, get a skinney screwdriver and stick it in there. It should go in about 4inches. If it only goes in a little way then you have a broken bolt. And another thing they make screw extractors , you should look into that before you go drilling.

drill, retap, use a shorter bolt of same thread. move on...chris

i figured out that the bolt isnt in there and that it just need to be retapped, what i was looking at was the bottom of that hole, i tried to retap with the same threads and didnt work to well, gonna make it about a 14mm bolt that was she will be stronger
