I am replacing my rings but not boreing block. What do u think is the best replacement for stock pistons/rods/rings. Can I use and would it change anything to use srt pistons without the rods. Are stock pistons the best to use?

What's your motivation? That might help us give suggestions.

I am replacing oil pan and installing scrapper. I would like to spend no more than 400 and pistons and rods. Would like to have a nice newer bottom end if pulling pan anyway. Hope to go turbo soon, though.

So, you don't plan on pulling the head and re-honing the cylinders? then I wouldn't put in new rings. They won't seat well on worn cylinders. Installing pistons/rings is not a casual venture. There are alot of details involved. Unless your pistons/rings are actually damaged, I would leave well enough alone. Just save the $400 and put it toward a full rebuild with forged components.

There is no wayin hell you are pulling the pistons out the bottom without removing the crank. I am surprised i am the first to notice that idea was here.

i didnt even think you can remove the pistons throught the botom of the engine anyways. good luck using a ring compressor on the bottom of the engine. ;) lol

oops! yes I am rebuilding a spare head I have also. Do u think 150 buxs to rebuild head with 3-angle valve job is good deal. They wount port and polish at all.
