I got a set of SS vavles for the motor in workin on right now. They are used with less than 200 miles on then. The intake vavles are nice and clean minus being black from being used. The exhuast vavles have some build up on them from burning oil. I have them soaking in some carborator (sp) cleaner and its helped a little.

but what can i use to get the rest of the build up off of them. I thought about using a small wire brush and a dremel, but i dont want to mess them up. Help me out.

id just use a small demel fitting, like a wire brush, but less severe

Thats what i planned on doin... Im gonna get a fine wire brush or something simular for my dremel. Just wanted to run it by here and see if anyone else has done this.

Definetly use a BRASS wire brush, the brass is much softer than stainless, won't mar the surface like a steel brush might, and be gentle. Should get the grime right off.

thats a good idea... thanks... Im gonna use the same process to clean up the head around the vavles before i put them back in. Not to mention a little polishing. Not gonna take on the task of porting it but i will polish the insides while the valves are out.

Be careful around where the valve seats you dont want to alter that part of it very much.

I wouldn't wire-brush aluminium. It's just too soft. A polishing wheel, maybe, a porting bit, maybe, but not a wire brush. For some reason, that doesn't sit well with me.

They're stainless though.

The cylinder head is aluminum though.

Ill have to use something a little more abrasive to get the deposits off. Unless someone know of a good chemical that wont hurt aluminum that will clean it up. Im gonna get some Mopar MCCC and see if that will clean it up a little.

as for polishing it out I was just gonna use a fine sanding drum on my dremel to take the roughness out then polish it a little by hand with some wet sand paper. I wont be goin too far in there. I polished the head on a friends GSR and it worked out pretty nice so Im gonna do the same for mine.

By the way this is on my 4g63 im building. But i figured id ask in here for the archives incase anyone else need some info for their 420a since its really not motor specific.

Careful on the intake side. You don't want it mirror polished, for it will kill your low end by reducing fuel atomization. Once it is in boost, though, the velocity alone is enough to atomise it just fine.
