81639, HELP!!!!!!!!!!! Posted by 98gsSUPERCAR, Oct-12-04 12:06 PM
I have a 98 gs with a hahn stage 3 kit. i've had the car with this upgrade for about 2 yrs. and i've only driven it about 3 months of that. problem after problem. this is my current problem......
I think i have an oil leak between the bearing block and the main cylinder block right above the oil filter housing. i know this is a anabolic sealer and not a gasket. i tried using jb weld to seal it from the outside but that was no use. i took it to a shop and they said they replaced the oil filter housing bracket gasket but the problem kept coming back. now the engine is not tuned right anyways because i havn't been able to adjust the fuel lines. in the past yr and a half i've blown the upper, and lower head gasket and cracked a piston driving cross country....oops, my mistake. but i need this problem fixed and would like to do it myself. the engine has been rebuild 3 times and it has .20 over pistons in right now. how difficult is this job, the more detaled the explaniton the better. also when/if i ever get this completed would the oversized throttle body be any help. i am most likely going to be selling this car when i am done with the engine, just wish i hadn't gotten that 4,000 paint and body job. any help would be greatly appricated, my email is kohearn@hotmail.com please help me fix this problem and get my car back on the road.

Probably cam seals leaking, and the oil running down.
What's an upper head gasket, if you don't mine me asking? Are you trying to say valve cover gasket?

Sounds very familiar... :P (picture circa July 2003)

Then I found that I had forgotten this. Makes all the difference in the world.

There is an o-ring in between the bedplate to block surface. If you forgot to put it in there, it will leak from just above the oil filter adapter area.
EDIT: I have also seen a block leak in that same area from lack of Anarobic sealant. We had a local guy get a prebuilt block, installed it, and it leaked from there too. Pulled it about a month later, and there was hardly any Anarobic sealant at all.

Well I know it is most likely the o ring or the anabolic sealer. my first question is can the bedplate be removed, or taken down with out taking apart half of the engine, how big of a job is that. and if its the o ring, exactly which o ring are you refering to? Thanks for the help.

Look at the above picture by DR1665. That is the O-ring.

Yes, you can remove the bedplate without pulling the motor, but it would be much easier to pull the motor in my opinion.

No, not the valve cover gasket, trust me, I've had to replace that enough to know what it is. By upper head gasket, i'm not talking about an actual gasket but silicone. And this engine has been apart many times, and I know exactly where its leaking from, I'm almost positive its not the cam seals. any one have similar problems?
