81196, 60mm Throttle Body on 98 GS with Turbo Kit Posted by RebelRiderR6, Oct-01-04 04:00 AM
I am looking at getting a 60mm new throttle body on 98 GS Eclipse. I have a Hahn Stage 2 with FMIC. I was curious if you guys recommend me getting this from http://www.modernperformance.com/dcx/eclipse_60mm_mpxtb.shtml or just get my stock bored to 60mm. I am limited on expenses and also was curious about how much of a gain do you estimate on an aftermarket turbo kit. I did the search and saw what it would be on stock but was curious with my turbo kit.
I am at about 175 whp with only 6 pounds boost and want to get alittle more before I decide to up the boost.

dude, get a jeep tb, it's about $200 cheaper. also, you can't have your stock tb bored to 60mm. 54-55 is about as much as you can go. i say build yourself a jeep tb. that's what i did. it's easy and fun and then you feel like a bad ass after its on and working. :thumbsup

You'll have to port match the intake manifold to take advantage of the full 60mm. 60mm is optimal for forced induction, 55mm is best for an NA setup. I run the 60mm NA on and off the spray and I like it.

I run the Jeep 60mm with my setup - Turbo at about 6psi....it helped noticeably. I like it.

So if I have to port match my intake manifold that means it has to be port and polished to 60mm. I was also informed that if I decide to do this that I should get head work done and get new cams as well. Anybody got any input?

You do not HAVE to have a port and polish on the intake. To take full advantage port the intake opening to 60mm so there is not an obstruction in the air flow. As for cams and head work, they help, especially with where you are at in mods, but there is no word 'should' in that. It is up to you, time and money.

I was reading about what to do with the head and I am completely lost on how much I should do. I will get a fully built bottom end in like a year. Not sure if I should just go with a port and polish, new lash adjusters, new rockers, etc. I was looking at what others posted. I can't afford alot if I am going to get 60mm tb and ported intake manifold, but i don't want problems because it is my daily driving car.
