i did the search and found that its mostly caused by plugs, wires, and the coil. i have swapped in new plugs, wires and coil i replaced with my stocks. now, the car runs just as it did before but the cel hasn't come back on yet. immediately after startup, it runs at 2k rpm until i drive it for a few minutes. then it'll drive okay for a while but occasionally at stop lights the idle will be eratic. are there any simple checks to be done before i take her to the dealer?? let me know...chris

umm.. i really hate to be the dork that has to bump his own post here, but i really am stumped as to what the problem is. i've cleaned my vacuum lines, removed tb and cleaned, removed the egr tube for cleaning, and cleaned the iac as well. but i'm still reving at 2k after startup and backfiring just a bit every now and then also. i know that can't be right. i don't have a cel and so codes to go off of. how do you check if the pcv is bad?? somebody slap me with some knowledge...please?? chris

IAC, loose vacuum lines. Check/Replace both. CEL 43 is for your coil I believe.

reset ECU. if you only messed with the wires, coil, and plugs, and nothing related to the intake, i dont see why your idling so high. just reset and see if it continues

To check if the PCV valve is bad, the easiest way is to put it in your mouth and blow/suck on one end. Weird I know, but the PCV will only allow flow in one direction. Also if there is not a rattle when you shake it, replace it. the check ball inside should rattle freely.

I think your highh idle can be caused by a leaky vaccum source.

When in doubt.. rip it out.

thanks again fellas for the responses. yep, i'll get a new pcv but i had to wait until today (check to check, ya know) as far as the vacuum hoses, i removed them and took a real good look at them but found nothing wrong with them. my cel came back on yesterday and i'm getting the same code. funny thing is, the car runs better now. (??) it definitely pulls stronger and on startup it doesn't jump to the 2k idle anymore. the only difference now is, it'll studder just a bit between gears sometimes. shoot me your 2 cents...chris
