my engine was leaking oil about a year and a half ago.....
so i decided to change the VC gasket and the 4 small spark plug gaskets also. being the ambitious man that i am, i said why not paint my VC also. (painted the VC red with DUPLICOLOR High Temp) The valve cover turned out amazing, but driving home from Wendy's one night my engine started to hesitate and then i heard clunking noises like a hammer tapping a hard block of metal. (the tapping increases with RPM's but isnt gone at idle) so i assume this is a spun bearing?

how much $$$ are we talking to fix my sick engine? my car has been sitting around way too long. What parts are needed? Can i do this myself?

To fix it properly, you should pull the block and have all the bearing journals down there machiend for the next size up bearing. I'm thinking you might get away with dropping the pan and reinstalling some stock sized bearings for a while. Thought this was my problem a couple weeks back, but it was really a cracked piston. Lovely.

If you have to ask then no. Just rebuild the thing. Spun bearings are never fun. It's gonna get costly though. Just do some searching around for rebuilds and you'll find out what is best for you.

Yeah thats what I was figuring (rebuild). I dont have any experience doing a complete one, and I dont have any time on my side (school) so I might have somebody do it for me (neighbor). Oh BTW, i forgot to mention I am a 'new' member, but I have always looked at the forum when the DSMTALK.com guys didnt understand.

Damn I have bad luck.... does this problem have anything to do with a) oil deprivation b) oil in plug wells c) a and b

My engine is at the machine shop right now as we speak becasue of a spun bearing on cyl. #1

I pulled the motor and decided to do a full re-build.

Here is my shopping list to give you an idea...

Grind crankshaft journals - $85.00
Take head apart and acidwash with a resurface - $85.00
Recondition rods - $36.00
Hone block - $45.00
Align Hone the block for the main crank journals - $245.00
Headgasket set - $90.00
Piston Rings - $70.00
And a new "used" rod - $30.00
Rod bolts - ?????????
Oversized clevite rod and main bearings - ????????

The machine shop still hasn't called me to tell me the price on the oversized clevite bearings yet.

Then I had to buy misc. stuff like engine assembly lube, greese, gasoline to clean some parts, some vacume hoses to replace the old ones, a engine stand, rented a cherry picker, and a couple tools I didnt have; such as a puller and a ring compressor...ect.

My car has been on the jackstands for about 2 weeks now, I'm just waiting on the machine shop to finish so I can pick up my parts and put them back together and put it back in my car.

I still havt bought the spark plugs, plug wires, motor oil, tranny oil, and the coolant.
