I am looking for advise on adjusting my timing gears on a 1998 Eclipse GS. I am using AEM cam gears, Crane 10's and running a 12.5:1 compression ratio. Here in New Brunswick, Canada, we do not have a dyno to find the best degree set up. Any advise would be great!

this is NOT me being a dick, but you will find all you need to know by using the search function. there are MANY post about this exact thing. there are many different setting being run. it all depends on your particular set-up. you really do need a dyno unfortunetly. this may help ya tho...

12.5:1 huh? Post pics of your pistons!

I do not have any pics of my pistons. I had them custom made from CP. I had to wait three and a half months for them. I have tried the search, and spent hours looking at differen options or just trying to find them. I have little access to a computer, so it is hard to find the proper information in a little amount of time. Thank you for the help, I will have a look at your link.

With your high compression and mild cams the engine will like some added overlap. Play around with it, start by advancing the intake cam. Without a dyno you are left with a seat of the pants feel to tune by or trips down the 1/4 mile.

Do not mess with the exhaust cam much, it effects your injector timing, and if you go too far trips a CEL.

I figured that I would have to do the trial and error approach, I was just looking for a starting point. Thank you for the advise on the exhaust side of the house. I'm glad I started with a mild cam, I knew the issues would be to big if I started with the Crane 16's. Throw cels, I'm having a lot of diff issues. I have an induced voltage and resistance spiking in my engine management system from the aux power. I can't get my idle below 1300 rpms and in first gear, off the gas I'm going about 30-40 kms/hr. I wouldn't change a thing, big compression is the way to go, I will sovle the issues one day.
