I just changed my oil for the first time on my new engine which I had put in a few weeks ago. While the oil was really clean I found metal shavings in the oil. Is that just a normal process of a new engine getting broken in or is there something wrong? I thought it was normal but my dad said it's not, but last time he built a car was way back in the 60's so maybe shit has changed, and he thought the filter would of picked up most of it. Also I have really been grandma drivin this new engine so I haven't been beating on it so I don't think thats the problem.

I'm not an expert, but the only time I've seen metal flakes in oil was because of a spun bearing. I'd listen closely to the engine and if you hear any unusual clicking or knocking stop running it immediately...

its probably not that, and u dont wanna give this guy a heart attack, thats why he got a new engine.

my guess would be its the engine breakin in.

did they give u a new oil filter with the new engine, or was it the old one from the bad engine??

I know it's not a spun bearing, that is the reason I blew my old engine. I only have a 1000 miles on this engine and I check my oil everyday before I go some where. I also warm up the car every time I go. They had a new oil filter. Nothing seems wrong with the engine, it feels allot stronger than my old engine. I think this might just be a normal breakin process.

Or there might just be some lefter over shit in the oil pan from when my connecting rod broke. I only got a new bottom end the head was fine except for the valves which the replaced. I know Satan didn't take the time to clean out that oil pan they probably took it off the old one and just stuck it onto the new one. And I know its the same oil pan because of all the dents in it.

If they didn't take the time to clean up everything, drop th eoil pan yourself and clean it out, you don't want those metal shavings getting around your engine and scratching things up.

Get some good degraeser a new oil pan gasket and clean everything up nicesly. I also suggest using some blue locktite on the bolts, and torque them to proper specs.
