this happen to anyone else. i notice i have some seepage around the seal, this cant be very good. can the stud be replaced, new tank, gasket sealer okay?

The tank stud? As in one of the 8 studs/nuts that hold the fuel pump onto the tank? Overtorqued it or something?? lol

Well I usually break the fuel pump assembly which is cheap to replace... but never the actual tank itself.

well Tim, i snapped three off at once and had to replace the entire gas tank. I dont think its possible to removed the leftover stud anyways without removed the tank in the first place and draining it. Either way you're going to have to pull the tank, and when you do this think of how hard its going to be to do by yourself(which i did)

yea... the stud thats "perminantly" attached to the tank... to much torque!:wallbash its only one stud and i aint plannin on removeing the pump anytime soon, so ya think i can get away with some RTV?

Gas might eat away at the RTV gasket maker.

the only thing that worked was jb weld, and even that was eaten through in a few months. replace the tank

I got thru half of the return fuel line writeup yesterday myself. I snapped off the upper left bolt while taking it off. I honestly dont even know where the bolt went, and half the threads were gone too. Oh well tho, they are overrated. (Didnt fall in tank, dont worry)

If you need to replace the top piece, youu should just go to Satan in my honest opinion.

Whatever isleft of the stud remove it, grind it cut it whatever you choose, clean the tank out so you dont have a fire. file works nice in the situation. Once you have the stud location flat, using a slow speed cordless dril a tiny hole in the metal when a self tapping screw can go. Install your assy and use a nice self tapping or sheet metal srew to tighten it down. This may keep it from leaking.

There are sealants used around gas tanks, go to a parts store, not a pep boys but a regular parts store and ask for a gas tank repair kit. that should have the sealant in it yo use. If you cant find anything try a tniy bead of plumbers putty on the seal of the pump assy.

For the record, cordless drills make sparks. The metal brushes on the commutator arm. Don't fuck around with sparks and fuel tanks.... not unless you have a video camera filming it, and a next-of-kin to post it on 2gnt.

I snapped one or two on my old talon.

Don't worry about it. Use the remaining ones and if it's an issue where you smell anything or it's actually leaking, go to Wal-mart or somewhere similar and get this shit call "Seal-All" or something. It's in a yellow tube and is like silicone. At any rate, it's impervious to gasoline and will do the job. When you need to remove it for whatever reason, it easily peals off.

when swapping fuel pumps on the avenger recently my friend who claimed to work on cars managed to break 3 of the bastards off...like star turbo talon posted that is the way to do it...we did it right in the car with a grinder and drill, if your not a moron you won't even come close to blowing anything up...we drilled them out, tapped the holes and used strong bolts to hold it down...no problems since. don't bother using sealants...can have as much shit on there as you want, will NEVER stop the leakage...trust me..i tried.
