Ok well here is the deal, I recently got water down in all 4 spark plug wells about a month and half ago. I got the water out of the wells and changed the oil and it all all milky and white.

Then a week later I replaced my plug wires.

Then about another week after the wires I replaced my plugs and noticed there was oil in the 2nd cylinder plug well only. So I changed the valve cover gasket and spark plug seals and haven't noticed any oil in it since then. But the day after I changed the the gasket and seals I had to take my car to the shop for paint.

On the drive to drop it off at the paint shop I noticed that when I get on it I can smell something, but not quite sure what that smell is exactly. It just smells like the engine when it runs hot. Plus the engine did get really hot.

So I pick up my car yesterday from being at the paint shop for 3 weeks and it is still smelling hot, but only when I get on it. Almost smells like I was low on oil, but I am not low on oil.

I checked the fans, and they are running. I checked the water, rad fluid and thats fine. But I only drove about a half hour from the shop to my house and my engine was super hot. The temp gauge didn't read that it was hot. But it was really hot and like I said now when I get on it or downshift I really smell that smell of being low on oil. Plus I noticed a lose in power as well.

I am suppose to be driving to to NOPI in Atlanta this coming Friday. I don't want my car to break down on me on the way down. Its a 8 hour trip. Would not be pretty.

If you might know what the issue is or need more info please let me know what you think.

Thanks!!!

My car runs really hot as well, but the temp reads fine on the car. I haven't noticed a lack in performance though. I think our cars run really hot. Mine always has, even before and after my rebuild.

If the coolant temp gauge doesn't say its hot and you aren't getting any obvious overheating signs, I wouldn't be concerned about it smelling hot. Perhaps you are smelling residual oil that is being cooked on the engine. If your oil looked contaminated, I would change it again. If it gets all milky again, then I'd figure that problem out before making a long trip.

No the oil looks clean. I flushed out the oil twice after it got water in there. So the oil is fine.

I wonder if I didn't get enough gasket sealer around the base before I put the valve cover back on. :scratch

But why does it only smell when I get on it or downshift?

Define smells hot... I have a feeling you are smelling that sulfer smell that all our cars share...

I noticed my engine gets hot as fuck after a night of NFSU. I'm talkin so hot that, once I poured alittle water on the heatsheild and it didnt even get wet, it just evaporated before it even touched the sheild. But my temp guage was reading normal.

So, I just thought everything was okay and didn't think much about it.

Maybe that is it. I get really paranoid that something is wrong after finding oil in my plug well. Since I have changed my seals and I haven't noticed any oil in the well.

I just like to try and figure if something is wrong before it messes up other shit that if I would have caught it before then I could have avoided a potentially harmful disaster.

If that makes sense you are as tired as I am. I have been workin on my car for ever now. Damn I'm going to bed.

Night all!!!

hmm i had the same problem... car ran hot but temp gauge was normal.. installed an aftermarket gauge and ran the sending unit the back of the block.. found out the stock gauge was wayyy off! Looked arounds and found my radiator cap was leaking... i also had oil leaking from the spark plug hole .. it came outta the valve cover seal.. replaced it with new one and still fukin leaked... the dam thing.. so i used rtv on the new gaskets and never had a problem since...
