I'm having trouble removing my crank pulley. I removed the stock crankshaft bolt and noticed that it's stripped so I ordered a new one from Mitsu. I the meantime, I screwed in a longer bolt of the same thread to use for pulley removal like my instructions say to do. Does the new bolt have to screw in as far as it can because I am having great difficulty doing this? I hooked up the 3 toothed 5 ton gear puller and started cranking with the screw part of it pushing against the new bolt. After some time, the screw part of the gear puller began to bend the bolt and eventually it pushed itself off the bolt. I don't have a torch to heat up this pulley. Am I doing something wrong? What is the best way to get this thing off?

Go to Autozone and rent the "Chrysler Harmonic Dampner Puller." Pay your deposit and use the tool. Return the tool and get your deposit back. It has a hardened metal point piece that goes on the end of a bolt in the kit which holds centerline and presses the pulley off.

Oh, it is different than the one I am renting now?

I rented the tool at autozone called a Chrylser Harmonic Puller and I'm using that to get the pulley off. However, I can't crank on it without the pulley rotating clockwise. How do I prevent it from rotating? I have the car in gear with the break slammed down and leaned a metal rod against the pulley to try to prevent it from rotating but the rod bent.

i know this insn't the best way to do it but if you have your timing cover off then you can stick a big screw driver in there and lock it up that way.

I got the brake pushed down harder and it seems to be helping. I just can't physically turn the ratchet anymore. I used some WD40 and beat on the pulley with a hammer. I guess I'm going to have to burn it. I have no experience with this. Should I get a propane burner or a heat gun?

No, I'll probably try a heat gun. What part of the pully should I heat?

I've done this on the side of the road with minimal tools. We jammed a crow-bar in between the spokes of the pulley and had someone stand on the other end. That keeps the pulley from turning. I used a breaker bar with a long extension to turn the bolt on the puller. I put a jack-stand under the extension to support it. That lets you use your weight to help turn it. It worked. Air tools help alot.
