80479, Smog a Low Compression engine what??
Posted by pn0ymahal, Sep-12-04 11:51 AM
Hi. I have a built long block no cams, cam gears.. I plan to sell all but i might leave my built long block with low compression pistons in the je 881 etc.. Would my setup effect the smog test any? or just a loss in daily power?
any information would be great.
thanks guys,
Michael

I've never been able to pass smog with a low compression motor, but that may be due to other problems like the fuel system.

Kalifornia's smog dyno pretty much catches everything.

Not sure what CA expects on the smog test, but I passed VA smog with 8.8:1 CR and Crane 14's. I was dead on the limit number on one of the tests though. I may have some difficulty in '06.

I'm in Gainesville (NoVa). I used to live in Hampton Roads and never had to worry about this. I was pissed when I found out that they require emissions testing up here.

I haven't had any luck with a low compression motor built for boost yet passing smog... Not to say it couldn't happen... But I have been fucked every time so far.
Good luck... Maybe you should try rollin' thru some ghetto and get one of those shops to do it... I know of a stock RS if you need it Mike ;) Dan's got my number if you need it.
