What do I fix? The check engine light came on after I replaced my battery. I need an inspection, so this will kinda not allow me to get it inspected, right?

the car runs fine though?! *shrugs.* The only thing I did notice is that my temperature guage went up to HIGH for the first time ever , just sitting at my parents house with the engine running, no A/C, no Vent, nothing, just running. Later, when I turned the vent on, the temperature remained in the middle mark. I didn't know if this was normal behavior or not. Never had a CEL or a temperature problem ever until now.

in NJ a cel light means no inspection

ok...so heres the problems:

1) the fuel pump relay is wacky.
2) both the upstream and downstream O2 sensors are going nuts.

could those be both fuel related? if the fuel pump has taken a shit on you this would cause both problems right? could the relay have gone bad? i have a feeling that the fuel issue is screwing with the 02 sensors.

3) overheating.

from what i can tell, this is a seperate issue. i hate to say it, but if you arent loosing fluid it could be a waterpump failure. when mine occured it was very random.

guess this doesnt really help, but perhaps theres some ideas here...anyone care to add.?

I would say replace the ASD relay (which mind you is not the damn fuel relay) but since your running fine just reset the ECU and see if anything comes back. If it does let me know and i will guide you in the right direction so you dodumb a ton of cash on mindless crap.

Where is the ASD relay and how do i reset the ecu? (unplug battery?)

btw SPL my water pump ws replaced with a bigger, badder Airtex water pump when ARD replaced my timing belt at 89,000 miles. I'm currently at 109,000 miles.

FYI in case this helps.

I also noticed only my passenger side fan comes on when the vent or A/C comes on. The driver side fan (right fan if your facing the front of the car) does not work. Is this normal?

When the AC is on, so is the AC fan. The primary fan is more temp-dependant. It's normal.

You have a bad O2 sensor. have AutoZone scan the codes so we can tell you exactly which one to replace.

the code 42 will likely go away. if you unplugged any of those relays to do a compression test or something, you can get that code. if the car runs, the ASD relay is getting voltage.

FYI - the AirTex pump is OEM replacement. tARD is dumb.

Are replacing the 02 sensors easy to do? Reason I ask is because I only bought a few new tools and my dad helped me get a simple socket/wrench set just to get me going for now.

Invest in a o2 socket...I was suprised how many time I'v used it so far...worth the 10 bucks.

huh? You're kidding right? You shouldn't have to replace 02 sensors all the time, but maybe once of the car's life

I went through 2 or 3 within 7 months, until I got the afc and tuned. I just used a wrench, didn't buy a socket (but I already had the wrenches).

what i dont get is how you've been here for a long ass time and cant use the search :P lol

good luck mykernaut :thumbsup changing an 02 sensor is easy as pie, anti-seize on the threads so its much easier to get out when the time comes

And I dont get how you've been here a long time and can't pay attention to people's post. I didin't post asking how to fix an 02 sensor. I posted asking about the CEL codes, and if I'd pass inspection. You're real intelligent! :-)
