I have searched extensively and asked a few people with no fix. I know there are a ton of threads on the Jeep TB, but none of them had the answer for me, none that I saw at least.

I installed the Jeep 60mm Throttle body and when I started it, my idle was 4000rpms.....way too high. Then I searched and read more, apparently there is a port on the intake manifold that needs to be 'plugged'. I RTV'd a little square piece of sheetmetal over the hole to cover it.

Then I read that the sensors could be shot, so I swapped both my stock sensors onto the Jeep Throttle body. I also swapped the tip of the IAC since the Jeep one is larger. I also swapped the stock spring, so the butterfly closes entirely and is firmly shut.

I then reinstall it, using RTV to seal the TB against the intake manifold,and start the car. The idle was lower, but still high at 2,600 rpms or so. Almost 3,000 actually.

The TPS reads 0% on my SAFC when the car is at idle, so the butterfly is certainly closed, I even check it physically with my hands.

I have NO idea how to get the idle down to normal.

I ended up swapping back to stock everything and it runs normal. Just wastted a lot of time....eh.... 5 bucks to whoever fixes my problem.

Even though the butterfly is full closed hold the tb up to the light to see if theres any gap aroungd it while closed....the flap or bore maybe outta round. Also even though the sheet metal was a good idea I believe it maybe stopping the tb from seating properly if you need the plug I can put one in the mail for you...I have a bunch of them.If any of what I said helps I don't want your money.

hey dude, when i did mine, it took me forever to finally get it right, however i believe i may help you. first of all, take the IAC back out and adjust that tip. the tip of the IAC motor should protrude exactly 1 inch from the motor. that IAC tip is what adjusts the idle vaccum. also, even after i had that done i still had to mess around with actual idle screw that adjusts how far back the butterfly comes. another thing, when i installed the jeep tb, i got a piece of gasket paper and cut out my own gasket and the rtv'd both side of the gastket. oh and the last thing, i found that the jeep tb needs a little bit of extra slack in the throttle cable. i have my throttle cable bracket slid almost 100% to the right of the holes. that was the final tweak that i needed to make mine work perfect.

also vaccum leaks, i know that's a no brainer but sometimes those things slip our minds. just figured i'd cover it all. i messed around with mine sooo much so if you need more help, i would be more than willing. just pm me or get me on aol at ughhhead84. if you need any pictures i will take some for you. good luck bro. :thumbsup

I would like a plug actually, even though I am not exactly sure how it works. As far as the gap around the butterfly, I have like a very very slight gap....like....less than one millimeter, and only in one little spot, I dont think thats my issue. I will send you a PM about the plug, Id appreciate it, and so would my car's idle....lol

get anything figured out yet?

I had to use Clear sealant around my MP 60mm TB because I had the 4000 Idle when I first started her up. and around both sensors.

Ive got a plug in the mail coming from Madhatter. I plan to install the plug once it gets here, and adjust my AIC tip to 1 inch, like advised. Then install the Jeep TB with a good seal of RTV at the intake mani.... hopefully then my idle will finally be right and I can try to enjoy this mod.

it's going out this morning.when you put the plug in, just a small coat of rtv around and push it in flush.And your done.Heres a couple pic's to see what I mean and what I'm sending you.

I can take a buttload of pix of mine when I get back east if you dont get the problem fixed by then. I take it you already tried the idle adjustment screw too

Idle adjustment screw for the tension of the throttle cable, if so then yes. But I dont know of any other idle adjustment screw.... The Jeep TB doesn't have one, and neither does the stocker..

uh that might very well be your problem... on the jeep tb you have to drill a hole on the one corner of it and tap it so you can screw a screw in there and set the idle speed with it.

yea the rtv around the sensors is a good idea too, i did that.

I don't see how adding another hole in the TB will help LOWER the idle. That would only work to add in more air to adjust for an idle that's too low. The problem from my reading is that the idle is too high. That's caused by too much air (i.e. a leak).

did u follow metaljim's writeup at all or just try this on your own? I recently modded one, but I have a rather strange problem. When I first installed it, it idled fine, and it still does most of the time, but intermittantly, it will jump to 3-4000 rpms and stay there.

i think we've all screwed up our iac motors.... all out of wack. someone invest in a drb3, i'll get in line to rent it. I have a brand new iac motor from bob kise in my car tho. we'll see what that does. oh, and can someone take a pic of the jeep tip? i don't know which one im running, but my car idles at 1200, which im fine with..

Installed a rubber plug into the intake manifold 'hole'. It was eerie installed the 1/2 inch plug because it seemed as if it could slip through. If I pushed hard enough I could push it through entirely. So I got a rubber plug that was larger, foreced it in and ground off the excess.

Adjusted the IAC jeep tip to exactly 1 inch.

Blocked off the stock vacuum hose the stock TB uses, then adjusted my throttle cable...

Started her up and idled at a smooth 850 rpms.

The key is the plug and the IAC tip length.... Thanks for everyones help.

As far as driving, this thing is weird......hehe in a good way. At 65moh on the highway to maintain speed I only have to give 5% throttle, unlike the 20% before....and when normal driving and shifting...the car seems to 'get going' a tad quicker. Definitly a worthwhile mod.

Also, it was raining when I finished...so I didn't really get to check the performance of the thing.....Im just glad I got it working..lol

Did you have a stock throttle body before or was it bored to like 55mm?

I had a cinpletely stock TB, and now have a 60mm Jeep.
