80029, High idle... Posted by 420AYE, Sep-02-04 08:12 PM
ok, my car idles anywhere from 2000 to 3000. i just put on a jeep tb, but no, it doesn't leak. if i put my fingers over the IAC idle hole on the inside of the tb, the car will die. i hooked the old vacuum hose that went to the top of the stock tb, and put it in one of the three prong vac deals on the back of the mani. my butter fly closes all the way, too much actually, and i don't know if my iac is working. the funny thing is, is my idle will be fine 1 out of 1000 times. it will idle at 800 and a shitty idle at that, but the rpm's are down. i don't know how long its been doing the upppp and downnn REEVVVvvvVVVvvvVVVvvvVVV sooo anyying. waiting at a stoplight at 3000 rpms isn't very cool. i ordered a new IAC motor, but im not sure if that is the problem. any ideas guys? what effects idle except for leaks...what are the leaks or sensors that wil make my idle fluctuate and be high like that sporatically. after i've driven it, it will stay right at where i was running the car. and the idle is only good RIGHT when i start the car up, and the rest of the day it is fucked. and even then, it isn't right sometimes when i first start it.

IAC motor is not installed correctly, IMO. You need to mess wit the pintle and get it in the right place.

actually, no, i had two iac motors. one came with the jeep tb i had, and neither of them would move in or out like my car's iac motor USED TO. i put all my weight on the motor with the plunger pointing down, nothing. i put pliars on it, and i ended up ripping the guts of the motor out. the one in my car is the same way. won't budge, but im not going to tug on it until my other gets here, heh. in any case, the only way i have to control the idle, is to unscrew the plunger as far as it goes. even still, once it gets warm, it will bring the rpm's back up to 2000. i can see them fluctuating sometimes. and it just makes me think that the car WANTS to be at 2-3k rpm. what gives. could tps be a problem?
i also watched the iac when i turned the ignition on, nothing.measured it and every thing. im gona put my old tb back on, and see, and then see if i can swap tps's.

at idle post up the voltage of the tps (shut , 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 , wot) do the same with the Map sensor. Also how did u check for leaks at the TB or manifold? use a small propane tank imo. if u have a leak your rpm's will jump like crazy :)

ok, fixed it boys, i told you no vac leaks, i checked with a cigarette even. but it was my tps. i need to call up bob kise and let him know i don't need that 75 dollar iac motor. i didn't check the tps before i put it on, so i deserve it. i put my stock tps on, idles like a charm, no fluctuation in the rpms either. i do however need to fix my throttle plate preasure with my stock spring.... and, there is a slight gap between the left and right sides of my 60mm jeep tb bore and the plate. it idles fine, but i was just curious if everyone has a LITTLE. i had to look really hard to see it, but its on both sides. the plate is slightly flat on those sides, i was just curious if everyone's were like this. the gap is less than like 1/2 millimeter.
