I am running extremely rich backfiring trough intake and exhaust. Blowing grey color smoke out exhaust. Engine shaking! I have replaced o2 sensor and plugs and wires. Still not helping actually getting worse. I need to know how to correct before head goes bye bye. The timing is way off but the computer is controling it. I have not touch the timing in anyway.It is still factory set except what the ecu changes. HElp.

You are so close to actually describing a problem it's painful. Elaborate a bit. How do you know your timing is off? Do the timing marks line up?

Start off by checking cam gears to see if markings line up.
Try resetting ecu.
Clean combutsion chamber with Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner.
Could be bad gas.
Ignition system ok?
Fuel system clean?

Could be anything with your description.

yes the timing marks line up I put shell v-power gas in. New fuel filter. I am guess the timing cause cant think of any thing else. Basically the ecu will back of the timing or advance depending on certain condition, right. Well I think it has advacnced it to far on the intake cam. I have no cel also. Will a safc fix this.

No dont add an afc yet, you might add to the problem. Do you have adj cam gears? Also do a voltage check on you MAP sensor and check for vac leaks. I had the same prob, it was one of three things I corrected. My timing was off, cuz of shitty Crane cam gears being made wrong. I did have a vac leak. My MAP sensor took a doody. I would wait on the AFC though. Do you have a local AutoZone. They can read your ECU. Thats how I found out, well plus all you guys helpn me out.

No. The ECU cannot adjust timing on a mechanically timed cam.

If the timing marks on the gears line up, check the mark at the timing belt sprocket. You can still be off time.

As well, check or just block your EGR as a test - faulty EGR function can cause backfiring through the intake manifold.
