79517, question about CEL p1296 and SAFC install Posted by turbo8u, Aug-23-04 09:05 PM
i just wired in an afc and i got this code, the car runs perfect and i can adjust fuel just fine. the cel clears itself when my car is off and comes up as p000's on the logger unless the car is ON (running) then it throws the code. the sensor check said 3.8ish but i was wondering if maybe how far i wired it from the ecu matters? or maybe i need a new map? its about 4-5 inches from the ecu where i cut it and spliced in the two wires.
anyway, any info you can come up with on this DTC post it up, i did a search but it hasnt been covered much
once again though the car runs just fine, so i suspect either a blown map sensor or just a wiring problem

turby, i dont know what that code is in reader speak. what is it with the key dance (if you can do it).
a lot of us had code 61, which was something to do with the MAP voltage i believe. cars ran just fine like yours. some with the SAFC had that code others didn't. don't thnk anyone ever figured it out either.

p1296 has to do with the map sensor not seeing 5 volts, on my sensor check on the AFC it reads about 3.78. dont know if its the HRC FCD i have on there clamping the voltage to low, a problem maybe with the spacing of the wiring or even a dead or going out map sensor.
TIA, and BUMP
edit: i dont have the code commonly associated with an AFC install

all right I know shit but are the wire gauges the same, maybe the one you spliced into it is larger and robbing the signal just my thought sorry.Maybe try splicing into it with a smaller gauge, then to the AFC.kinda along the same lines as why I had to buy the ignition adapter for the dis-2..............to not rob from the volts from the signal wire.....right?

no one else has had this cel it seems :shrug....and tons of people have wired in their AFC....im going to swap around the map wires and put in a new map sensor so we'll see how it goes

yea this may be the case, no sense in ripping the wiring apart just yet though. i'll replace the map and see what happens. a good thread to describe my problems to a T was written by 'avengeance', i contacted him but he sold his car and never fixed his problem

well the map sensor reads 4.165 when the motor is cold, you know i think with the AFC and the HRC FCD tapped into this thing something has got to be fucking up. anyone know what the HRC FCD clamps at? i gave my missing link to a local 2gnter named chris so if any of you have one i could buy?

I made my own FCD... clamps the voltage at 4.6V... ;)
And what IN/OUT sensor setting son the SAFC do you have?

5 in 5 out seems to work the best and be the closest
i changed the in's and outs to 6 in 6 out but the voltage doesnt change to the map, it doesnt with 7 in 7 out either...i was hoping it was something to do with that as well
how far from the ecu are you supposed to wire in the map wires?
edit: when the motor is warm, map sensor voltage is 3.8
i dont get it though, p1296 is no 5 volt to map sensor...but if it ever saw 5 volts it would fuel cut, right? fuel cut is like 4.7

mine is set at 7's. seems to work best for me. at 6's it stumbles

whats your map input voltage with the car warm?

sensor check, it the top voltage on the AFC. whats the voltage with the car off? car cold? car warm?
