I just finally got my car back together, not realyla rebuild, but I replaces oil pump, water pump etc... and all of my seals including the headgasket. The machine shop said they had milled my head so it should be flat. I start the car it ldles perfect, timing is right. I forgot to plug in my radiator fan then the temp rose to about 3/4 before I noticed it and plugged the fan back in. Does it normally take time for the heahgasket to seal? I haven't had this problem before, and my coolant was milky, and I think some got into the oil as well. Am I in for some shit here? There was oil/coolant comming from the back side of the block, it looks like from the headgasket. I am so aggrevated right now, any help?

Compression test... but you know what it most likley is. ARP head studs? If not I would reccomend them. You did torque the head bolts down right? Did you change your oil? What caused you to do all this in the first place?

ask if he changed the oil, filter, and coolant when he did all that, or else it will be like that when you take the head off.

I changed the oil and the coolant, but the oil had been sitting in there for around a week, shouldn't make a difference. I haven't done a compression test, but for the amount the was comming out the car was running perfect. I think the machine shop didn't mill my head right, or something is off. I torqued everything to spec and in the right order. I've done this a few times and never had this happen.

I think I am convinced my head was not milled right, or not at all, all of the oil that came out of my car was milky. It didn't run for more than a total of a few minutes, think it could have caused a lot of damage, I didn't see and metal shavings. It was a brand new mls headgasket, and new head bolts. Even if they aren't studs, they worked fine before.

Would over torquing the corner bolts cause something like this to happen ,like instant warping?

i had the same thing happen to me after my first head gasket swap. it was because the hg was put on upside down. doops, but it didn't do any damage. i pulled the head and flipped the gasket, new oil and coolant, ran fine after that. that's not to say that's your problem though, sounds like the machine shop milled your sh!t crooked if you've done this job before and are confident that you did everything the same way...chris

Pulled the head, and the gasket was backwards oops!! Not a big deal though, I don't think it had enough time to cause damage, now I can get headstuds, and the portfueler while I'm at it.

it looks like I have a very similar problem...new metal HG and white smoke w/ water comming out. How did you figure out which side of the gasket is the upper part? I was specifically looking for any clue on which side goes where but there was nothing on the gasket though.

Make sure you flush all the bad oil out really good, antifreeze will murder an engine bearing fast. Change that oil a couple times at the least.

on the mls hg the side with the numbers on it goes up, if you have it upside down it should be difficult to fit over the dowels on the block also....chris

hey if i were you, i'd get a new headgasket. since you already torqued them the 1st time, the HG is not going to be evenly torqued the 2nd time around, it might be ok now, but later down the road, it can 'cause leaks. just my $.02
