Is it feasable to pull the head and fix teh valves that are fuckered in cyl 2?

does it need to be re-ringed?

yeah, you can pull the head off and replace the valves, but while its off replace all seals, and check the whole valvtrain, make sure everything is good, and boost it till you blow the block. :thumbsup

Do you know if the valves are fuggered? Or is it the rings? IMO it sounds like the rings. If you boost it it may run ok, but for how long? If you rebuild the motor first, you will need to save up for a turbo kit. Are you keeping this car for awhile? These are all things that you need to think of first.

If it were me and i was keeping the car, i would build the motor first, and then turbo it.

Not sure what else your looking for here ... pull the head like he said ^^^^, it's not that hard, just time consuming. If don't feel like playing with the valves take it to a machine shop and let them do it. You won't really be able to tell well if something's wrong with the rings until you get the head back on and can drive it. If you're pushing white smoke, then your pushing oil past your rings and they need to be replaced. That would be the time to rebuild. Otherwise, drive.

IF this were me, this is what I would do. Pull the head and send it to a shop to be checked and see if anything is indeed wrong with it. While it's off, check the pistons for cracks and/or problems. Get a set of rings and a cylinder hone. Drop the oil pan, and pull out the pistons/rods. Hone the cylinders to get some good cross hatching in there, and re-ring the pistons. Put them back in with everything in the order and position it came out. By that time you'll know if something is wrong with the head or not. My bet is not and you just have bad rings. At most, I'd say you might have worn valve guides and you could get away with just getting the guides replaced. That's going to be your cheapest most effective way out. Also, once you get the new rings in, drive it like you're breaking an engine in, use non-synthetic oil for a while, until the rings seat.

good idea.

I don't know for a fact if the valves are screwed but I think thats the reason for teh low cyl 2 compression.

I will mention the above to my dad and see what he has to say.



BTW: there is no white smoke out the tailpipe. also, i drove 6 hrs and only burnt less than a 1/4 of a litre of oil.....
