79205, help me tune my car (mis-firing)
Posted by talonguy2005, Aug-17-04 10:34 AM
Im posting this here to see if any of the advanced tuning people cna figure this out. Well, i have been trying to get my car running normal for my turbo kit, but i just cant figure this out, well here is the problem, and what i've replaced / done:

Problem: The engine at about 2,000-4,000 rpms will begin to misfire if you give it really amount of gas, and then it will continue till you let off the gas. Also when i checked the spark plug tips, they were all white, which would mean burning lean, so my question is what could this be?

list of everything i've done:
-whole new rebuilt engine, and head.
-Replaced CAt with test pipe
-replaced O2 sensor
-replaced ECT sensor
-replaced fuel filter
-replaced coil
-replaced wires
-replaced plugs with all different kinds like 3 times, and every gap you can think of

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Injectors tested??? you know you could have a bad inj (hesitation/loss of power sometimes can be a bad inj)

BTW the same people in the other forums come to advanced so....i expect this thread to be locked by dino any time soon.....I can feel it :P

Think this would just go under A) Performance/Engine...or B) turbo/nitrous forum..

BTW any CEL lights? (oh sometimes unscrupulous people remoove the CEL from the car before selling it.. if the Cel does not come up when you turn your car on its been remmoved, i know i did kill my CEL since i remooved my EGR...being a trained smog inspector....SHAME on me lol)

it throws out 43 twice sometimes, and i got it scanned it it said misfir on cylinders 1, and 4 i think. but my car is running lean all accross the 4 cylinders by looking at the spark plugs. this is the problem that caused me not to make it to the SO this year. :cry

If you think you're running lean, Do you have a EGT gauge in the cockpit and a Fuel Management System? I'm just going to throw this in here...

Make sure the harness is plugging into the coil pack and not loose at all. Code 43 should be for the coil pack. I know you said you replaced your coil, but check it with a multimeter anyways and make sure it's good. Things happen. It sounds like an ignition problem to me, not running lean. Get pics of your spark plugs if you can.

Everytime, always, 3-4KRPM? MAP sensor, MAP sensor wiring, MAP signal altering electronics (SAFC, E-Manage) misconfiguration. No Doubt.

what are your plugs gapped at? spark blowout sucks, i would know. .032 would be a nice starting point for a range colder or stock heat range.

my coil is brand new, but i need to test my injectors, and fuel system, it is the only thing i have left to test :( and if that doesn't fix it, i dont think anything will!!!!

edit: bearkat also maybe you can do me a huge favor. Maybe you could send me the injectors you have, and if it fixes the problem i will give you some good cash for helping me out. but if it doesn't work ill send them back to you with a lil money for helping me out. I just dont want to buy injectors and find out that wasn't the problem, come on help a 2gntr out :)
