79165, Leaking tranny fluid after clutch install !!! WHY!? and other weirdness!

alright so after i've put 50 miles on my new clutch i've noticed that i'm leaking a real healthy amount of tranny fluid. i got up under the car and could see tranny fluid on the tranny. could it be coming from the axles. i didn't think that much fluid could leak from the axle seals. i bolted the tranny down to the block at 70 ft/lbs like the manual says.

another really weird thing i noticed is that while i'm under the car, i can spin one wheel and the other one won't spin or better yet, i can spin both wheels in opposite directions! i didn't think that was supposed to be able to happen! damn these stupid problems! can someone give me a hand? thanks!

Spinning the wheels like that is normal. You have an open differential, and they will turn independently of each other. As far as the leaking fluid, double check your drain plug and make sure it's tight, and check that your axles are ALL the way in. If one is loose it will leak out almost all of the fluid.

ok so i'm thinking it must be my axles then. i read a post last night in my searching that said to tighten that drain plug down real good, so i did that. Here's pictures of my axles....

Sorry the pics are crappy. That's a good half inch gap between the green axle boot and the tranny. Do those look like they're in all the way? i hope it something simple like axles not being in all the way or even axle seals. i hope...

just to give you an idea of how much fluid i'm loosing...

that was just over night. that's about a three and a half foot trail.

Suggestions PLEASE!! i'm not going to drive my car until i can figure out where this is coming from. if you think it's my axles, then how the heck to i get them all the way in!?

ok so since its not in, what do i do to get it in all the way? i heard a pop when i stuck them in. do they slide in even further then? would i just need to put something on the back of it an bang it further into the hole?

I REALLY NEED TO KNOW SOON, SO I CAN DO THIS TODAY, THEREFORE, THE PERSON THAT GIVES ME THE SOLUTION GETS POINTS!!

ok i got this pic off of corbin's webpage.

i'm assuming this is what it should look like when it's all the way in. hence, no metal showing between the green boot and the transmission case. i'm kinda thinking out loud with this post.
i'm going to go see if i can bang those in further. if i can, then nobody gets points and i'll let everyone know how i did it. if i can't, then the person the tells me the best way to do it and it works, gets points. wish me luck! :thumbsup

They're fine. You have leaking axle seals.

ok that's exactly what i was thinking. i took both axles out twice today and tried getting them in further. they absolutly will not go in any further. i was going to suggest axle seals and see what any of you thought. i'm going to get myself some axle seals tomorrow. however i've already tried to get them at shitozone and advanced auto parts and neither place carries them. a friend of mine told me they have them at napa. where have you all gotten your axle seals from? thanks darkone for the suggestion. i'll give you points if this is the issue. :thumbsup

Napa usually stocks them, but the dealer has a newer part than NAPA that works better. I think they're all of $7 each. Part number M04797334

damn... you're getting points. thank you so very much for your help! there's nothing special about getting out the axle seals is there. just pry with a screw driver? also, is there anything specail about putting the new ones in correctly. i read something somewhere about using a big socket or a block of wood or something to put them in. anything on that? thanks again man for your help. its incredibly appreciated!
