Grab ahold of the backside of the valve cover and pull it towards the front of the car. This is assuming you have the front motor mount still attached, and a jack or something under the engine. The engine needs to rotate counter-clockwise around the front motor mount so the back side of the tranny can clear the frame. HTH.

i hope your not trying to stock the tranny back up with the clutch bolted to the flexplate.

Plus pulling the engine towards the front of the car. You should be golden.

Wouldn't that really be like trying to put the tranny on a non-mod setup? I mean that's what I had to do, slide the input shaft into the clutch and then bolt the tranny up.

Yah, it can be done, just more of a pita than needed.. but yeah, you can stab the spline through the clutch if you 'want' to, heh

wow, well first of all i want to thank you all who replied for not flaming me for my retardedly pissed off post. lol. i pretty much took a break for the rest of last night and i'm probably not gonna mess with it much today either. i definitly am not gettin it towed. that was just anger speaking, haha. i just need to step away for now.

now for the real info... yes i did bolt my clutch up to the flexplate first. i did not realize how hard that was going to make getting the tranny back on. right now the tranny is being balanced by two floor jacks. the one thing that made me so extremely mad last night was the fact that i have the tranny about an inch from the motor. it is soo close yet so far away. my bolt holes look to be about a half an inch off. so you think i should tug on the motor a little to help things line up? that sounded like a descent idea. i do not have the front motor mount on. that's actually still on the tranny. i was so blind with anger last night that i couldn't see the obvious. the obvious is... is that the input shaft still isn't lined up. if you have any other helpful hints i would greatly appreciate it. thanks again for the replies. :thumbsup

Take the clutch off the flexplate and put it on the input shaft of the tranny...it will make your life more mellow. Get someone to grab the VC and pull towards the front of the car like mentioned before, and you should be able to just pop it on. I swapped my clutch by myself once. It is definitely teh suck. Trying to lift and maneuver a 100 pound transmission, tug on the engine, and get a bolt started is all hard when you only have two hands. If you have anymore questions about it, feel free to hit me up on AIM.

hey man thanks! i'm definitly not dropping the tranny back down again, i'm way to close to take it all the way back down to put the clutch on the input shaft. like i said, i can see now how close i am. i just need to do that pull-the-motor-by-the-valve-cover thingy and it should be clutch! literally, lol. however i do have a question about the driver side motor mount. do you put that on before you have the tranny up, or can you wiggle that on after the tranny is bolted down to the block?
and another thing, if i have to drop the tranny back down to get the motor mount in position, then i'll probably put the clutch on the input shaft. how, when the motor is all bolted back together, do i bolt the clutch to the flexplate? that seems like it'd be hard, or do i just push it towards the flexplate with something through the clutch fork dust cover? i dunno, all i can say is i really really appreciate the replies. it's been a while since i've posted and had this many replies. if anyone could answer any of those questions, that would be awesome! thanks!

After you bolt the tranny on, lower the engine/tranny on the drivers side and put the mount on, then jack it all back up into place, put the nuts on the mount, but not tight. Put on the rear mount and tighten it up, then tighten up the side mount, then do the front mount last. You can get to the flexplate/clutch assembly through the lower dust cover. Just spin them until they line up. The bolt holes are NOT symmetrical, so you just have to keep trying until you get it right. When you're ready to tighten them, put a pry bar on the crank pulley bolt to hold the internals still, and tighten the flexplate bolts.

damn you're helpful, lol, thanks a million man! what exactly do you mean by not symmetrical. i mean, i know what symmetry is but i'm not sure if i get it with the flexplate and clutch. i have the clutch bolted up perfectly fine right now. i torqued them down to 55 ft/lbs like it says in the manual. does that mean i did it right? does that mean each bolt will only go in one hole on the clutch?

he means, there is only one way to bolt up the clutch to the flexplate. if you move it over a little, non of the bolt holes lign up. sucks when under the car trying to find the right one.

Ahh, won't take you but a time or 2 to get it right, fun times. Soon as I get the head back on, my tranny is comming back off for a rear main seal. It gets to be just like changing the oil after awhile, lol

damn... i bolted the clutch down first then slid the input shaft into the clutch without any problems, but then again I had my dad help me hold the tranny. Also, I put a block of wood behind the intake manifold to hold the engine forward to get everything to line up. good luck man. have a friend give u a hand if you can.
