78888, I sure hope I'm not screwed...
Posted by xcasbonx, Aug-12-04 03:38 AM
Well I got the motor back in last night and almost everything is hooked back up. Only thing I am worried about is my timing. I tried atleast 5 times taking it all apart and lining marks up over and over and still was always half a tooth to 1 tooth off. It seems to be about a tooth off now...I rotated the crank several times and the valves clear. I also have adjustable fidanza gears...is there anyway I can adjust the gears if my timing seems to be slightly off to get it to run smoother?

I'm a lil wary about having this thing done and ready to drive to Ohio tomorrow. It's only 3 hours away, but I'm going to have to do some serious breaking in tonite. What do you guys think?

*notes*
1. car has not been started yet
2. timing is off by a tooth but valves clear

Aaron did you have the block decked or the head milled? If so that is the obvious problem. Then you can use the cam gears to compensate.

If not then i dont know what to tell you other than try again.

The block was decked I believe, I figured out I need to compensate with the gears now to get them aligned. Thanks.

Yeah, I had around .008 taken off my head, and it made for around 1/4 tooth off. Just to be sure, take your adjustable cam gears off, and match up the timing marks on the stock gear up to the adjustable gear, to make SURE the marks are on the same exact spot on the adj gear. If not, then remark it. Then, get your gears back on, and set the timing belt as close as you can. Use the adj gears to rotate the marks to line up. That should do it.

he was setting the cam gears to line up before the t-belt. how many teeth do u have to offset them? the tensioner was changing the line up
