I am running 15 psi and today all of the sudden i took off in 1st and smoke was all over the engine bay. It was coolant around the front passenger side of the car. Checked all connections and they were no leaks around pipes that to and out of radiator. My resevoir is at the full mark and when i checked it after smoking it was almost at the top as if it boiled up and shot out. I have no clue as to why this happened, it is new now. Let it cool down and it is fine until i go for awhile boosting and then i guess the pressure builds up and shoots out of somewhere into the engine bay. Any suggestions. I am gonna order the thermostat from howell this week. My fans turn on fine with no problem. My motor is rebuilt, but i have not changed the water pump.

I can tell you from personal experience it's not fun to change the water pump. You have to remove the timing belt and then re-time the car. The nice part is they are only about 40 bucks at Autozone. I'm not convinced that's your problem though. Flush your system and re-fill with new coolant - see what happens.

Is your car over-heating?

My little wire to my temp gauge came off so i will have to fix it today. I will run it again and see if it overheats. Thanks for the suggestion. I will reply if i overheat and see where i go from there.

could you have possibly just overflowed from your resevor?

2 possibilities (other than the obivious hole in a radiator or hose), one your radiator cap is spent and won't hold pressure or two, your head gasket is spent and it is pushing coolant out past the radiator cap and in to/out of the overflow resevoir.

Thats what I was thinking, because it's only happening when you're boosting. There should be no change in coolant system pressure just because of boost...or reving, or idling or anything like that.

Try popping the hood as soon as it happens before the coolant has a chance to dry up. You may be able to at least spot where its coming from. And check your coolant for oil or other sorts of funkiness.

I opened my hood as soon as it did and i couldnt find ther source. It was not coming from the radiator cap nor the connection there. The resevoir was boiling over, but some coolant around the area of my ps/ac belts and parts around it. It does it sometimes while boosting. Yesterday i drove for about 4 miles and it boosted fine and when i went to park is when i saw smoke and my coolant boiling. I ordered the 160 thermostat since i didnt have one in since i live in georgia and it is always hot. Dumb idea, i know there should be one in there so i ordered it. I pulled the dipstick for oil and it was fine. No oil was mixed with coolant. I was gonna play with it today but the storm bonnie is pouring rain here in Georgia so hopefully tomorrow. Got a new problem also, my fuel pump does not stay on and when i try to start the car it starts, but low vac and idles like craps and sometimes shuts off. But i will fix that tomorrow with the overheating problem. Thanks for the help guys and keep suggestions coming.

The only way you can get boiling coolant in the overflow is if the cap is bad or it's being pushed out under boost. Top it off with coolant and drive around WITHOUT going into boost and see if it overheats. If it does, then the cap is bad. If it doesn't then the hg is bad. Or take your cap off and go have it tested. This type of leak will not be apparent with a compression test, since the hg is only compromised under boost situations, not static cylinder pressures.
