7825, more problems.....help please...corbin...

Alright, got the starting troubles resolved, it was the relay. Only problem is now anytime I'm accelerating thick white smoke just pours out the exhaust, so thick that you can't even see through it. Any ideas what the problem could be now, smells like burnt oil, but from where?

Sounds like it could be a bad Heead Gasket

IF it is the headgasket, how much am I looking at spending?

I don't know, mine is getting fixed as we speak.

You just got done replacing the valve cover gasket right? Because lots of oil was down in the spark plug holes...right? Did alot of that oil go into the cylinder when you pulled the spark plugs? Maybe you are burning off the oil that got into the cylinder (assuming some got in).

Maybe check the color of the smoke and try to see if any fluids are dissapearing. I believe that white smoke is coolant and blue-white smoke is oil (so I've been told). Did you do anything that would make the head gasket seriously blow? If its just the standard head gasket leak, I would expect to see oil coming from the back of the block--drivers side (usual place).

What else did you recently replace...it might help

My brother changed those gaskets while i was at college, supposing this is what happened, how long should it take to burn off all the oil that got in there? It doesn't smoke but barely idling or cruising but when i rev it up or accelerate from a stop it just pours out...any ideas? Oh, by the way the car just got running yesterday, it ended up being the relay, so nothing's been done to seriously blow out the headgasket and I'm not turboed or anything.

headgaskets usually cost around 500 to get fixed or a weekend of headache if you do it yourself.

Does it really run like crap? It's stupid but check your PCV valve. If the little check valve does work than you've just made a giant oil pump. I forgot to put mine back in after doing some work and man I was pissed. Hope that's it. BTW if it's blue= oil, white ultra rich OR coolant. Antifreeze has got a real shit for smell when it burns.

I guess check over his work and try to make sure that everything is hooked back up (hoses, vacuum lines). I would expect that any oil in the cylinder would burn up after several miles. If smoke continues to pour out of the exhaust, one might suspect that there was a continuing supply of coolant/oil to burn. The color of the smoke is a good indicator as is the smell. All your brother did was change the valve cover/spark plug gaskets and now the car is pouring out smoke? So it never did this before? Its hard to imagine what could be causing the smoke if he only messed with the valve cover. Like Erik mentioned, I suppose that its possible for oil to make it into the intake manifold from the PCV valve (then it would definitely burn up and make smoke). That is definitely something to check.

it never used to smoke at all, I guess I could just go for a drive to see what happens. Where's the pcv valve to check?

You see the hose that goes from the front side of the intake manifold to a plasic elbow and then to a hose going into the valve cover? The little plastic elbow thing is the PCV valve. I believe that it is supposed to let air/gases vent from the valve cover into the intake manifold to be burned. This only happens when the pressure in the valve cover is higher than the pressure in the intake manifold. So this happens when you are idling or cruising. Under WOT, the valve should close. I actually have a breather on one of my VC pipes (should go to air filter) and I've epoxied my PCV shut. This lets my VC vent, but keeps any oil/crap out of my intake manifold.

would this lead to any sluggishness while accelerating if the valve wasn't working?

You might see some sluggishness if oil was actually getting through the PCV and being burned. The oil would not be helping the combustion process.
