78032, steering/ac belt snapped Posted by keg killa, Jul-24-04 10:55 AM
On the highway, both belts snapped, and I was towed to the shop, they replaced the belts, the next day the belt squeeks when the wheel is turned completely in one direction or the other, when the ac is on, it squeaks, turning the car on it squeeks, and at high rpms. As of now whats happening is the pully turns and the belt stops causing the squeaking noise, whats the prob and how can i fix it? tia

the p/s and a/c are controlled by one belt. when a new one is put on, it loosens after a bit of use, so you just need to re-tighten it. search..theres a ton of info already on this site.

the thing is, the guy at the shop looked up in the computer, it said there was one belt, but upon disasembly theres actually two, so he had to go to the dealership to get two belts rather than the single one he thought was there. The sympotoms sound like its one belt, but i guess not, it seems like theres a problem with the "pulley assembly" is that a possibility? tia

There is you ps/ac belt and then your alternator belt, so that was probably the other belt since they go on the same pulley. It was probably the pulley being off a little. My belts snapped a few weeks ago and my pulley was not pushed all the way in and it caused my belts to snap off.
