77990, Tire ripped apart.. CEL now... Posted by tacoman123, Jul-22-04 06:36 PM
I was on the freeway yesterday. Then all of the sudden, I hear clunk clunk clunk, etc.. then I pull over to the shoulder. I see that the outer lip of the tire came apart, and ripped everything from in the wheel well out. It ripped apart the inner plastic pieces, it took out my headlight (its half broken now), all the wiring that leads to the headlight, my corner light, etc.
It also threw a CEL and the SRS light came on. I went to Autozone today, and they ran a check. They said that I got a P00443 code. That is an emissions code, the machine said it was my purge valve.
Does anyone have any ideas to what this might be?
Why is my SRS light on? My air bags didn't deploy.

COuld it be that you took out a vacume line....Rubber flying everywhere, could have ripped apart a few things.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. It completely took out ALL the wiring for the passanger side headlight and corner lights, and everything that got into the way of it.
I'm also thinking that I might have left the fuel cap loose. I'm not sure, I'll check that in the morning.

Probably took out the airbag impact sensor. Isnt that in the front bumper somewhere?

you have a left and right impact sensor in the wheel well. if you are looking at the wheel from the side it is at 12 o clock in the fender. sounds like you damaged the wiring not the sensors or emissions equipment.

12 o'clock? Shouldn't the upper part of the knucle be there? But I'm pretty sure thats what happened. My corner lamp has disintegrated. I have a million wires sticking out the side.
Thanks for the info. Will pull the fender off tomorrow, imo!

thats in the wheel well you need to remove the liner and look up between the fender and framework. it will be a small sensor, square looking with a red colored loom/harness.
