ok..Ive been trying to find an easy way of getting the oil pan off according to the chiltons and me staring under the car that plate on there has to come off...Well the plate that's on there wont come off..the bolt thats directly above the cross member..how'd anyone get to it..I have no clue how that damn thing comes off and Its pissing me off. and for the exhaust downpipe and heatshield.the bolts Refuse to move. I bruised my hand with a wrench trying to get them off. Would PB blaster really work that well??

crossmember doesnt have to come off but the downpipe just has to drop up to the flexpipe. The only plate you take off is the one going accross from your trans thats about 4 inches long. Othere then that its just finding the right angles and useing the right extentions

ack...so yeah..PB blaster aye?...

dont tellthe guy to make his life a hell by leaving the crossmemeber and dp up to get the oil pan off.

Drop the crossmember its 5 bolts and drop the Downpipe then removing the oil pan is clear. Why would any intelligent person want to weasel around something that can be easily removed. Just plain stupidity. Good luck trying to remove an oil pan with the crossmember in the way.

~shrug~ never did it before...looked like it could be done minus the plate.

you probably can but why make life harder than nessasary. at worst you can drop the two rear crossmemeber bolts and let it fall.....that will make the other bolts a lot easier.

If its one thign i have learned from years or cars is never make it harder, just remove what you have to, to get your hands in there.

Wrench??? .... do you have access to an air rachet? The only pan oil bolts (and other bolts) come right off with an air rachet and the right combo of flexiable extensions.

i dint find it that hard to remove the pan with the crossmember intact. guess i just have some special talent? lol the main thing i rememeber about removing it was seeing the oil pick-up being right above my eye and about 2" away. i kept thinking "PLEASE dont let anyone kick out the jack stands!!!"

^^^Agreed. I have never removed my cross member to get the oil pan off. Its easy to do.

also never touched the crossmember. my oil pan was off in 5 minutes or less without a single problem.

well wtf...theres this little pate angled going down covering up 2 of the oil pan bolts...do you haveto use the little flexible extension to get to it? and or take off the front exhaust like teh chiltons says? cause I sat last night for a while trying to get to it...

Those 2 plates are very easy to get out just two bolts each then you can access the oil pan bolts...

I know that I got teh top one off and the top bolt on the lower one off, but I cant get the bottom bolt thats right above teh cross member..I guess I'll just take it off...or get a flex extension???

Do not forget to disconnect the battery. I treated myself to an interesting sparks display when i removed the stock dp.

To make it the easiest, take off the downpipe and crossmember. Then you need to take off the 2 block to transmission support brackets that cover up a few of the pan bolts. I believe they are 17 or 18 mm bolt. Use a good 1/2" drive socket wrench or breaker bar, or an impact wrench if available. Once those brackets are off, its clear sailing to the pan bolts. Oh and PB Blaster is the shit..USE IT :)
