77667, Timing gear and oil pump Posted by safedawg, Jul-15-04 09:40 AM
I have a melling 190, I put it on already, just wondering if those need to be primed, also how do I get the crank gear back on, not the udp. I've beat on it a little and it only went in so far. How do I get it all the way on, I tried finding a longer bolt and using a 2in pipe, but I can't find a bolt that long that size here in town. Any ideas? Is there a special tool, or one i can rent from autozone or something, thanks.

I used a short well 1 1/4" socket with a 1" longer crank bolt, and pushed it on *most* of the way. It stops pushing it on when the end of the crank bottoms out on the inside end of the socket. Then i used the same longer bolt, and used the crank pulley(underdrive or stock) to push the gear all the way on. The crank pulley when fully on, pushes the gear right where it needs to be. Don't forget to switch out to the stock crank bolt when the pulley is getting close to be on all the way.

I tap it on with a hammer until it seats, then drive it on with an impact and the factory crank pulley.

Can they be touching? I guess they can be since they are spinning together.
