Can anyone tell me which direction the bearings are installed? Its obvious how they go into the rods but does the the "tab" on the other piece match the one on the rod or is it turned the opposite way? TIA

the tabs are formally called 'tangs' and they just fit with the bearings, you just push them in.

do you have a 95 block by chance?

the tangs are on the same side of the rod when with rod bearing cap installed. the tangs face the exhaust side of the motor.

Thanks for the help! I wasn't going to plastigage but after further inspection, some of the old bearings have different numbers on them. Though my engine is only 22,000 miles old, I assumed the bearings were standard size (they said they didn't turn the crank). Now you've got me wondering... Thanks again for the great advice.

phew, good thing you didnt throw in any odl bearings. you would have been hurtin :D check dino's sig (darkone) for the tech manual for the 420a, it shows all bearing clearances and what you'll need.
