77099, hesitation after abot 35 mins Posted by talonguy2005, Jul-05-04 05:42 PM
ok, after im driving down the freeway for about 35 mins, i start to get hesitation, but my temp is normal, and i get no CELs. But my car under even slight acceleration will hesitate, and just keep doing it. But if i stop and let my car sit for a lil bit it wont do it again for like another 20 mins on the freeway. I have no idea what it is my compression is 180 - 180 - 185 - 180 and i only have a little leak in my rear main. And I have brand new wires, and spark plugs, maybe the gap grows on my plugs after a while :shrug any ideas???

Check the MAP sensor.

What does the hesitation feel like? It could be several things.

well, it feels like it is kinda bucking. The map sensor was unplugged from the car before while it was running but i dont think that would ruin it, but why would this problem only happen after the car has been in gear for like 35 mins?

clogged catalytic convertor. when it gets heated it gets larger and starts to restrict the exhaust.

i think that could be it, because when i bought the car i was getting a CEL for the catalytic converter, and after i disconnected the batterey it went away, but i was told it was bad by the last owner, so maybe i will replace it. any ideas on where to get one?

Yeah, I had the same problem. I took my engine completely apart and found out it was the rotator split. You gotta hook a flux capacitor up to it on models before '96. That should solve your problem.

^^^gee never heard that joke before
its either clogged cat, coolant temp sensor, but if your not really getting a CEL then its probably the clogged cat.
when you stop and let it cool down the catalytic convertor will cool and the inside will shrink back down and stop blocking the exhaust. its like shoving a bananna in the tailpipe

I have a used test pipe that i'll send for $20 if you don't wanna buy a new cat. I don't know if you have to pass emissions, but warning you ahead of time that you won't if you put this on. If anything, it'll make your exhaust sound a little more aggressive and take care of the clog in the exhaust... if that really is the problem.
