76903, Symptoms of a Bad Crankshaft Position Sensor

How do you know if your crankshaft sensor went bad, other than the car possibly not starting? If the car won't start because of it, how would it sound trying to start, and what would it do?

It'd prime the pump, butnot power it during cranking. it'd never fire. No spark and no fuel in the rail. it'll throw a code 11.

when trouble shooting cam and crank sensors....Use a datalogger or scanner that will indiacte if cranks and cam signal is present. If you have a bad cam sensor the crank sensors may appear bad also. if you have a bad crank sensor the cam sensor may appear bad. So to test...hook up a scanner or datalogger so you can see if you get signal from teh cam and or crank sensor. (will be in form of yes/no field) Disconnect the crank sensor and crank the car. scanner should indicate signal is present "yes". if no then you have bad cam sensor. Disconnect cam sensor and connect crank sensor and again crank while watching scanner. should see crank sensor present "yes". Due to the way our ECU works the cam and crank sensors one may make the other look bad.

You wont have any spark and injector pulse. not a one or the other. Also test the harness to make sure you have a 12+ batt signal with the key on. Check the harness diagrams for wire color. Hope this helps
