76866, 2.25" Muffler Inlet with a 3" Exhaust?
Posted by Semperboost, Jun-30-04 07:26 PM
I'm gonna make my 3" exhaust at the hobby shop soon and am gonna use one of these Magnaflow mufflers

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/mirrorfinish/streetseries.htm

I'm going for the low profile, dual tip look, I wish the muffler was painted black and the the tips chrome like the GST one. Question is that all these have 2.25" inlets, the only ones with 3" inlets don't have dual tips. That 2.25" inlet will choke my exhaust, what do yall recommend? thanks

Bingo. 3" to 3". Find a different manulfacturer for your muffler if you don't like the styles they have available in 3". I don't recommend you bottleneck your exhuast system. Escpecially since your car is turbo'd.

I like the small dual tips not the huge ones, the race series doesn't have dual outlets. I might just end up getting one that has 3" in and two 3" out and getting a set of tips. I don't wanna get a cheap ass muffler that'll make it sound all nasty.

Def get the 3" inlet, but most importantly, a 3" CORE. I ran a Borla SS muffler, had a 3" inlet, but the core was like 2"!! Def choking the exhaust a bit at 15 psi..I now have a Magnaflow Race series 5x8 polished SS muffler, has a 3" inlet, and 3" straight through core. It sounds pretty nice, not ricy, or raspy at all. Deep tone that you can feel if you stand by the muffler with the car at idle :)
