I have a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS with of course a 420A motor. Last fall I spun a rod bearing and seized my motor. This winter I had my entire motor (both top and bottom ends) rebuilt with upgraded internals and reconditioned my head with new cams. I also added a turbo kit. I shouldn't call it a kit, it's actually a put together turbo kit with various different parts from different manufacturers. But that's besides the point. The problem I'm having is this...the motor is back in the car, the turbo kit is installed, and everything is hooked up. The car turns over, but there isn't any spark and I'm not getting any fuel into my fuel rail. All of my sensors and relays are fine. I know this because we had a guy put these into his car and his car would start. The same guy put his ECU into my car, and I got fuel into my fuel rail, but still no spark. His ECU is also out of an automatic, so that might be the reason why there wasn't spark. I guess it could be the ECU, but I guess I don't understand why that would be bad by just sitting around for a few months. So before I spend money on an ECU...does anyone else have an idea of why the damn thing won't start? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

Now this is just a suggestion because this happened to me. Since you changed the cams, did you remember to take off the magnet thats on the exhaust cam that helps run the cam sensor? If thats not on, you wont get spark!!

There are 2(or 4 depending on model) of large relays on the firewall toward the drivers side. Are they plugged in?

Look at the side of the motor, around the top side of the trans..there is a wire harness connector there, that has a harness that just plugs into, end to end. Its just a male/female connector. This harness goes to the coil pack for sure, and possibly a few other sensors. Its an easy harness to miss really, so check that. Check the coil pack harness to see if its getting 12v power when the key is on too.

check the plug that goes into the coil. I've missed that one before. It'll slide under the plug in on you and will look like it's plugged in but isn't.

Make sure that you plug up the right harness plugs to to right thing because I shot my ecu up like that. I wasnt getting any spark or fuel because we hooked up the harnesses backwards yes somehow we managed too. I bought a new ecu and it started right up

how the hell did you manage that? my motor is in pieces right now and just the other day i was thinking how amazing it is that they can come up with so many different ways to put connectors together.

The harness plugs for the coilpack, vss, and cps are all the same. If you mis-match them, you'll fry the ECU without even knowing it.

damn, i guess that is nice to know, i should have labelled them when i took them off
