I have to smog my car in the next two months. I have the 420a with a star stage II kit on it. Do you know what mods I need to pass smog? I'm thinking about running two cats, but don't know if that is necessary. I think there is a shop in town that will over look the visual inspection. Also, any recommendations on high flow cats or mufflers?

if you have the shop that is willing to look over the mods, you should be alright. Otherwise, there is no known way to pass smog in Cali with a non CARB exempt turbo kit.

I just visited my only hope and they said that it has to have a cert. So, I'm going to put it to stock. Does any one know if on the star kit when you remove the FPR if you need to replace it with a stock one?

If you are usig the fmu and not sfmu then you can just leave it on. It will not affect fuel delivery significantly with out the boost signal.

Just unbolt the manifold, turbo and DP and slap in the stock intake pipe. I held mine in with wire of all things for the 10 mins it took to test 2 years ago. Im up for my next test.

Technically, any rising rate or adjustable fuel pressure regulator will fail you. Most techs won't catch this though.

Always go to the most run-down, ghetto ass place you can find. If the guy knows what a turbo is, thank him anyways and go to somewhere more ghetto.

Ask for a pre-test and off-the-record visual check. This way you pay an extra $40-50 but are nearly guaranteed to pass the real smogcheck if you pass the pretest.

I found a getto place two years ago, and it passed no problem. But it took a month to find one. I think this time I'm going to swap to stock for a day, shouldn't take to much time. thanks everyone for the advice. I'm missing the down pipe from my stock setup. Anyone got one?
