76710, Hmmm test pipe or high flow cat?....
Posted by reeveso, Jun-27-04 07:49 PM
well im startin to get that sulfur/rotten egg smell after i rev it past like...4-5k or so...so im guessin its time for a new cat, my cars got 87k miles and im pretty sure its the stock cat so im gonna change it...first question is..is a high flow cat or a test pipe cheaper?..second, which 1 is gonna gimme a more noticeable difference..im not really 2 worried about emissions, im gettin that done in a day or 2 but here in PA they just check your gas cap :thumbsup ...i could just get a used cat from a junkyard next year to swap on there...

Well if you get a "Hi-Flow Cat" off of ebay, its not really a cat & you will not pass emissions with it, it is just a resonator. I bought one off ebay, brand new...never used it because i live in FL so i just decided to go with straight pipe exhaust. It is a 2.5" straight through design so I immagine that it will give a noticable gain....PS if you want mine PM me n we can talk

well i could prob just go to a local muffler shop and have them install a test pipe for around 50 bucks (or so i hear)...so im thinkin maybe i'll do that...but does anybody have a test pipe?..i wanna see if the gains are gonna be worth the money

As i said i have a straight pipes. Make sure if you go to the muffler shop, dont have them just weld it on & have them make flanges for you if they can (might cost an extra 10$) but later on you will be able to take it off for some reason or other cough emissions tests cough.

no muffler shop will make a test pipe. its a federal offense to remove the cat. like i give a shit tho, haha

get XtremeRS to make ya a resonated test pipe. He makes it nice and would cut down on any raspyness in your exhaust.

testpipe sounds like a honda on crack
resonator is much more mellower, without rasp

no but i mean like...metal wise..like a test pipe is just pretty much a bar that goes right through lol..and a CAT is a lil box type thing w/ stuff in it to get all the gases and keep them in there..but whats a resonator do?

this is what i used, its a dynomax race series bullet muffler. its just a resonator though. order it from summit racing for like $35 or NAPA actually can get it for around the same price.
