76274, udp installed Posted by kelvinb1, Jun-17-04 06:44 PM
i forgot who i got it from, but I finally installed my udp today. actually wasnt to hard, the orig crank pulley got bit up alittle bit but other then it was all good. the ac/ps belt was alittle tight so i had to loosen that tensioner all the way, and with it that far it was rubbing a ps hose.....didnt notice that till after i ran a 1/4 to see if it made any difference. Well I was about home and steering got really hard...like wtf. made alittle tiny slit in it, it got everywhere. anyways got a new hose on and all is fine. I dono if I need more mods to feel a difference in revs, feels alittle better? 5th at 60mph is about 2300rpm. anyways i got it done so i dont have to stare at it all the time. peace

motor mount is a must, i followed those instructions. I took the motor mount out completely and the motor was still kinda being held up. After some tweaking it finally came down alittle more. I got the pulley pretty well off but it was hitting the frame. after i dropped it alittle more I had enough room. Then alittle crow bar to it (little as in not to much force) and it slid off. Make sure you get the right belts too. The alt belt was fine, but the other seemed alittle tight but its fine. It took me about 3 hours to get it done.

slight problem... today i drove to work, about an hour away. the battery light was on. i had my headlights on and cd player, just factory speakers no subs or amps or anything, well cd player shut off, and i noticed the gauge lights were gone, so i shut the lights off and prayed to god it wouldnt die. the only things i can think are possible is when i was tighting the bolts on the alt that I do remember it sparked. Could that possibly of killed it? I drove about 50 miles with the light on. When I pulled into the parking light i was facing a window, and when I turned on my lights the car died lol. anyways any ideas? the belt is tight on it.
---- no special tooks, just a gear puller and whatever size the bolt was. I would recommend getting a longer bolt to put in there for the gear puller. I used the bolt from the motor mount that went into the cars fender. I wouldnt recommend it but it worked for me. I also didnt heat up the pulley, it went on about 1-2 milimeters. then I tightened the bolt to force it on

let me see you actually worked on your car with the battery still hooked up and the alternator connections sparked....hmm maybe youll learn next time to disconnect the battery.
Take it to autozone and have them do the free charging test

go to a small town, to a local shop and see if they will let you 'borrow' one. i used a local ford dealers for free. only issue i had was getting the pulley below the frame. i got the pulley almost completely out then it hit the frame. for some reason the motor didnt drop all the way.....yes the jack was holding it up but not all the way :D

u don't need a harmonic puller. i didn't even need to use a longer bolt, but i DID have to completely shatter my timing belt shield off to get it workin. and i jack the motor up and down to get them bolts out...i undid the pass side and loosened the front mount.its easy. just make sure you heat that pulley up for like, half an hour in the oven. it needs to be hot and expanded.
