Just looking for an alternative to porting. I know i've seen them, I just can't find them anyhere. Are they worth it?

so far the only one i know of is the venom intake manifold which just now became available for $475. no one on here has tried it yet.

Yeah I think our other alternative from Ray is not going to be produced anymore.

Hmm, seems like a decent alternative pricewise to porting/polishing. Wonder how they perform.

If you are looking for a venom intake manifold, I think they are not worth having them unless you are pushing some mad HP like 400 or so, this came from ARD here in socal.

What does porting/polishing usually run? I was checking it out and last I saw it was around $325, might as well drop the extra and have room to grow. Granted, i'll prolly never see 400hp, but ya never know. I might blow my engine some day and do the internals over, then boost the sheeat outta it.

http://www.advancedracingdynamics.com did mine for $80. Ported/polished the runners and TB inlet. Port matched everything.

hmm I remember somebody was making something called a sheetmetal intake manifold and it was a tuned manifold that you can also turn by moving silicon couplers up and down with. Saw it on the board a while ago, pretty pricey though 500 bucks I think.

If someone gets the Venom intake manifold before I do, let me know how your install goes. I'm just dreadin' having to go through a lot of shit to get it to work... I'm sure drilling and installing all the factory sensors and rigging up someway for the throttle cable to mount on will be a pain in the ass, not to mention whether our TB will bolt up correctly? And then we'll probably have to have the pipe to the TB welded differently to fit wherever the TB will end up... Is it the stack design like in the picture? That would put the TB aweful close to the firewall wouldnt it? Someone be the geunie pig for us will you? Or sell me one at cost and I'll screw around with it till I figure something out.

You are seriously jumping the gun here. You have a lot of other things to do before you even begin to consider a ported intake manifold. The benefits from a manifold at this point would be completely negligible and a waste of money. First do all the basics and then a few other tricks before you start spending cash on a manifold.

Oh, a few other points. A larger manifold is not always better. Ask yourself what you want out of your car.

It was Magnus in Canada who was going to work on the variable length runner setup, but he is pretty busy right now.

I hear ya, Just always planning for the future. :-)

I got tons of other stuff on my list also (udp, cam regrind, turbo), i'm just trying to figure out my path. The main thing I want to gain is low end torque which is why I'm looking into the tb and mani.

Thanks all for the advice!! I think i'll definitely go with porting if its only $80 (and matched at that)... now if I can only get my hand on a spare manifold and TB!

You are not going to gain and low end with an after market or ported manifold, if anything, you may lose some.
