I am shoping for a rebuilt engine and transmission for a 98 gs. I found a place that will sell me both for a gs-t for $5,000 uninstalled, and I was wandering if you guys think this is a good price. Thanks - Mike

Engine and tranny for $5k? Doesnt sound like a deal to me. You arent going to try and install that GS-T motor and tranny in your GS are you?

I was going to install them on my car, I am new to this and trying to learn, but you said that would not work so what would be my best bet to convert my gs into a turbo? Thanks for all the help.

if your block is okay, buy a rebuild kit w/ forged pistons & rods, then get either a hahn or star turbo kit. If you install it yourself and get a used/rebuilt tranny it should be pretty close to $5000.

Well is your engine/ tranny shot? If not all you need to do is buy a turbo kit for it. You can get one from hahn or star. If your parts are bad then you can do as suggested above and get a crate motor from howell or VT...

Hey, if you sit online long enough and check ebay, you can get a bottom and top end for less than $500, then slap on a Star 2 turbo kit for like $2000 and be set. With all the leftover money you can build the hell out of that motor. Thats my current project!

Ditto...you need to find out what is really wrong with your engine and transmission. There is no point in buying a rebuilt engine and trans if you just have bad rings. Your fix could be a basic bottom end rebuild. Or you could buy a prebuild block and reuse the head, trans, etc. I am sure that you could have the car back on the road for way less than $5k.
