75950, PLEASE DarKReaLity, read this... Posted by gilee_8, Jun-11-04 06:25 AM
Ok, I went to autozone and bought a gauge, the first 5 mintues of the car started with FULL BLAST of A/C, the gauges reading is flooding around after I released some of the freeon.
The reading is from 22PSI - 40PSI.... so I am like..shit!
after 5mins or so, it stayed at 24PSI constant for the past 20 minutes. is the the PSI I will consider it? (on the low side right now)
But before I start the car today, I put the gauge in, and the Low side reads 80PSI or 90PSI, and I am like..SHIT...so I release freeon till it reads 60PSI, then I start the car with full A/C...and now after a LONG RUNNING at idle with A/C on.. it reads 24PSI, so should I add freeon till 32PSI?
Is the reading I have now is the correct reading?? or when the car first started?
Thanks alot! Gil

75953, MORE DETAILS... anyone good with A/C a134? Posted by gilee_8, Jun-11-04 06:39 AM
OK, more detail. I won't charge it anymore yet.. I want to make sure before doing any further things to the A/C.
I bought another set of refill kit from autozone but this time, it has gauge on it. but it is only for LOW PRESSURE side. I ask for high pressure side also, but they said none and you just need to mess with the low side.
as DarkRealty said before, 32PSI low and 210PSI high and steady.. but I don't get what you mean by steady at what point?
The guage I got is from 0-200PSI reading. and it said 24-45 is FULL below is need refill, above is over etc.
Now after I released some (don't konw how much) freeon, and after the car ran for like 10minutes, it stayed at 26-28PSI (really steady) so I go into my car, and step on the gas to 2500RPM, and it shoot to ~40-45PSI, then even I keep at 2500RPM, it will stay at ~40PSI and shoot back down to 20PSI, then I let go of the gas and it will slowly go back up to 26-28PSI again (in like 2 sec)
So what should I do? if I fill it back up to 32PSI, then when I go on highway or even drive the car, it will shoot up to 45 or 50 or etc... then how come??? it's not steady?
when darkRealty said "steady", you mean at idle? or what? THanks again. I just don't wnat to change my whole A/C system. since I am completely broke now.. lol.Thank all. Gil

man you're really don't listen do you? the ONLY way to get accurate readings is with the R-134 manifold gauges that they sell for at least close to $80.00. if you're getting just the low side readings, it's not telling me if you're over charged or undercharged or who knows maybe you got moisture in your system, bad expansion valve, bad evaporator, condenser, receiver/drier...etc. the only way i can tell if you give me both HI and Lo side pressures(with the right gauges). you can't assume that you don't have enough freon if you're LO side pressure are below 32psi. there's many combinations of pressures that can lead to no cooling. i can easily determine the problem with your system simply watching both pressures and i can tell you right away. i'm going to assume that you have low LO side pressure with that gauge. another way you can see if your compressor clutch is engaging/disengaging like more often than normal. if it does, it also means you're low on freon. also look at your receiver/drier...there's a small inspection glass on it, look at it, and see if there are any bubbles flowing, if there is you're either undercharged or have moisture, it should be clear. check under your car and see if you have like of flood of water, normally it's like dropplets. if that's the case, you have a flodded evaporator meaning overcharge of freon. i can go on and on of possibilities, but i don't wanna assume that's really your problem without really knowing what pressure you have on both sides. when i mentioned 32psi and 210psi, that's the stock pressures that should be right on where in needs to be. regardless of idle or revving to 1500rpm that's when you should feel the AC system at 40-50 degrees inside your car. so once again, i urge you to take it to a proffesional before it starts getting more expensive, and end up paying more at the end.

THanks. I will listen, and I won't mess with it. But are you saying, if I DO have the corrent set of HIGH and LOW gauges, I can found out if I am low on Freeon and etc?
If so, can you tell me where I can get those set of gauges? pepboys? autozone? If so, maybe I can get my buddy to get that set. and I can use it for free. THanks again. I greatly appreciated your help.
I will give you points when I finish this mess. Thanks. Gil

The best solution at this point for you is an EVAC/recharge. Which requires equipment that costs a fair amount to warrant taking it to a shop. Your system needs to be completely bled out by vaccuum, then recharged accurately with the correct weight of R134a.
I would suggest finding a reputable shop that has qualified A/C guys on hand.
